My current laptop is starting to have issues, which could be uneconomical to repair, so I'm thinking of getting something new. However, these days I'm not really sure what the best specs are, so I thought I'd ask here.

I do a bit of photo editing, and a bit of casual gaming. However, I don't intend buying any new games, but I'd like the ones I've got to be able to run at full detail, and really well. My current setup copes OK, but not brilliantly. I basically play Automobilista, Flight Simulator X, rFactor (original), and some other older stuff.

So I don't think I need a full on gaming PC with all the latest components, but I'd like something that can cope with above easily. Under £1000, ideally a lot under!

Current laptop has an Intel i7-5500U CPU @2.4GHz, 8.00GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 820M graphics, and a 512GB SSD.

What sort of issues is your PC having? If it's software try backing up everything and reset to the factory defaults. It might solve nothing, but it costs nothing either.

The keyboard is broken is the main thing. I've had it quite a few years, so quite happy to splash out on something more modern.

You know you could get the keyboard sorted for £20 and have £980 left for lovely cider?

Otherwise https://www.expertreviews.co.uk/laptops/1413908/be... will get you going

Cider...

Rather than start a new topic, I still haven't bought a new PC/ laptop, but now might be the time.

I fixed the keyboard on mine so might keep it as a general browsing machine, so I'm now looking at desktop computers.

How does the below look for games like FSX, GTA V and Automobolista and other racing sims? Plus photo editing etc.

XPS 8960

I would say not bad compared to small independents e.g.

https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/rtx-4070ti-intel-...

Older CPU but better GPU for the same price.
