Layman's terms what boxes do I need?
Discussion
I have
cables from my utility room back to various points round the house - 7 wires
a cable from the telephone input in the attic back to the utility room - 1 wire
a sky router - id like this in the utility not the attic
various security bits that need to be plugged into internet in the utility.
What boxes do i need? sky router > switch > patch panel > cables round home
what ends do i need on the end of the attic > utility cable?

For ethernet cables then the best option IMO is patch panel and a switch where they all come together, and sockets in the individual rooms.
I have something similar to this in my utilities cupboard, with pairs Cat5e's connecting it to different rooms around the house

I then have double sockets on the other ends similar to this

I bought a bunch of short ethernet cables to connect the patch panel and my router to an 8 port switch. I went for a basic unmanaged one, but depending what you're planning on running you might want to consider Power over Ethernet

I went with the patch panel approach rather than plugs on the ends of the cable because sockets are way easier to wire up than than plugs, you only need a cheap punch down tool. However if you want full speed from Cat6 or above you really ought to be testing them properly whcih gets a bit more expensive. Over short distances around the house 5e is plenty fast enough for me though.
No idea on the Sky one though

the 7 cables are cat 6
the line from telephone box in the attic to utility is cat 6
the sky line is normal asdl. not fttp sadly.
How are the ethernet drops terminated, plugs on fly leads or wall mounted sockets?the line from telephone box in the attic to utility is cat 6

Edit: if currently unterminated then you have a choice, from putting on some plugs & using as flyleads to a patch panel (overkill for 7-8 drops imho) if wall boxes are okay a 2G wall box can present 4 drops on sockets, so 2x2G & that’s your 7-8 drops presented.

In short you buy a rj11 to ethernet cable that takes the incoming adsl from the faceplate to the attic-utility ethernet connection.
Move router to utility & another rj11/ethernet cable to connect the attic line to the adsl port on router.
Check internet is working as beforehand.
Then switch connects to router, devices connect to switch.
The type of switch can vary depending on the type & number devices you want to connect & how they are powered.
The type of cables depends on how the Ethernet drops are terminated & mix of drops vs devices you want to connect.
More details req.
