Been an Iphone user since the iphone 3 so dreading changing to a new set up but had a play with the fold and it seemed a real step up from the Iphones.

Anyone done it? How did it go?

I just got a Z Fold 2 today funnily enough. Though not come straight from an iPhone. TBH, I'm not really an Apple fan. But the Fold's a lovely bit of kit and cheap on eBay right now. I got an unused Fold 2 for £465, which given they were £1800 is a total bargain. Might be worth, at the price, just giving it a whirl...

You will certainly notice how much better iOS is when you start using the Samsung.

Haven't the folds got poor longevity with the screens cracking where it folds? They were really pushing them on the TV ads, with loads of freebies chucked in to get more take up.

I went from an iPhone 14 Pro to a Galaxy Fold 4 and couldn't be happier. Personally I much prefer Android over iOS and the only people who make a fuss over the fold screens cracking are the vast minority who it happens to so it's not something that bothers me.

I have used Android phones all my life and still have one as my personal phone. I received an I Phone for work use over a year ago, it works fine but I still prefer Android.

My Wife had I Phones for years, she switched to a Galaxy 20 and after a few weeks of hating it, she has bought another Samsung and says she will never go back to I Phone.

It really is just down to what you are used too or what ecosystem you have at home, such as I Pads/Macs etc. It wont take long to get used to a new operating system.

Ultimately both sides are well established now so software wise you’ll get used to it. You’ll prefer one over the other but they still function as phones. The painful bit is swapping over to Google services if you’re deep into the Apple ecosystem. There is no iCloud app for Android so photos/notes need moving over, but Samsung has an app to manage this for you at least. Any apps you’ve purchased you would need to buy again. There are a lot of customisation options on Android so typically if there’s something you don’t like about how the phone operates, you’ll be able to change it.

I left Apple once and came back immediately. There's a reason iPhones aren't being discounted by carriers and retailers left right and centre.

Yeah, there is no competition in iOS with other companies so they don't need to as people will pay whatever they have to. Let's leave this tribal Android/Apple stole this crap and try to come up with something constructive.

OP, I couldn't go back to a smaller screen phone no matter who made it. For me, foldables are the future be it the Flip or Fold style. Samsung Dex is also a great function to have as you can just plug into a monitor and use it as a desktop replacement if needed. I had all my data with Google anyway so it was all up to date and just had to log in. I lost iMessage which isn't a big deal if you aren't an American kid who'll get bullied over a green bubble and all my photos are in Google Photos and Apple Photos anyway. I still use Apple Music on my Fold and can still use Find My in the iCloud web interface with the added bonus of being invisible to others. If I was bothered about iMessage then I'd probably pick up a 2nd hand Mac Mini and use an app for forwarding them.

Same as most others who have tried the Fold, I cannot go back to a none folding phone regardless of OS.

I've actually gone the other way, last couple of months been using a iPad Pro in my work flow. Honestly there is virtually no difference between iOS and Android for work flows that involve OneDrive setups.

Biggest limitation for me at present is Android isn't officially supported by Company Portal at work, so it's frustrating I cannot edit/work on some documents via the Fold with Dex.

But between the Fold and iPad Pro, I've nearly found a way to cut out laptops completely from my work routine. A few iterations of iOS and Android, I can see my self ditching laptops for good, which would be fab as both the Fold/iPad are so much more portable than a laptop.

For me tradional slab phones now just don't offer the screen realestate the Fold offers, and are really compromised from productivity point of view.

We have multiple iPhones and iPads and a MacBook in this house. We also have samsung S20 ultra and note 10+ as well as four dell XPS 15 laptops. The apple stuff is well polished but I don't enjoy the limitation it puts on me. I can do it apples way and do it very nicely or i can use pc/android and just do it whatever way I like. The hardware and OS on both is so well established there is no feeling of stepping down in premium going from apple to top end Samsung (is my view). Just give it a proper go and don't just give up after a week due to it not being what you are used to. That's my suggestion. Enjoy.

At the end of the day the apps are just the apps whatever OS you're using.
