Hi all,

I'm looking to get a tablet computer, i.e something that meets the following:

- iPad type in size, i.e 10" or so screen
- optional keyboard/trackpad
- decent battery time
- Runs windows OS, i.e then I can attach xbox controller and use xbox cloud gaming, and maybe even run the odd really basic game but importantly watch films on it via files, but also some streaming via Sky Go for example.
- Price is a factor, i.e it just needs to do a job and not be the best in class.

The spec can be fairly low as it's not my primary laptop, just something to use when travelling really, keep the kids entertained too. I know Microsoft make a 'Surface' device and that looks good, likely I could get a used one as I don't want to spend a fortune, but any other suggestions? Assume there are other brands/models of similar devices.

Saw this recently for example:

Surface Laptop 3 (Certified Refurbished)
£389.00 incl. VAT

13.5"
Intel Core i5
8GB
128GB
Platinum (Alcantara®

Many thanks for your own experience

You might also consider Android tablets, if you need a keyboard you can get a keyboard case for them. You can do all of the things you list with Android, including connecting your X-Box controller and streaming play to the tablet.

The Surface Laptop isn't a tablet, it's a laptop with a touch screen. The Surface Pro and Surface devices are tablets with optional keyboards. I had a Surface Pro 4 and really liked it, not sure which one you'd get for the money you want to spend though. The Surface Go is the budget surface tablet but with a Pentium Gold processor I'd keep well away.

Samsung S6 or S7 are meant to be nice but I think the S8 would be a bit too expensive.

iPads can do those things, so don’t get hung up on thinking you need a Windows-based device.

Connect an Xbox wireless game controller to your Apple device

Set up your Apple device for cloud gaming

Apple Refurbished (to all intents and purposes a new device): https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/FYLD2B/A/Ref...

Thanks, I just find the iPad a little 'locked down' - i.e for just copying movie files to it, loading up old games from GOG/Steam etc would be handy on something that runs windows etc. I do have an iPad and its handy so looking for another device, then at least we have 2 tablets (we have 2 kids and thinking of plane trips etc).
