I’ve never had cloud storage but as I’ve got a new phone I decided to subscribe for 200gb as I have around 120gb used on my phone which I want to back up and then download to my new phone.

However not sure if it’s my pitiful Wi-Fi speed or what but it’s either not backing up at all or doing it too slowly (will take weeks!)

Is it possible to start using my new phone, download whatever is already backed up, and then every now and then go back to my old phone (presumably move the sim back across) continue to back up to cloud, then go to new phone and download it? And keep doing this until everything has transferred?

Would this work? Would it get confused and cause issues?

Thanks

Is your new phone also an iPhone?

Apple stores have very quick wifi. If you have one locally find a coffee shop next door if it’s not iPhone to iPhone or go in and sit down if it is and you’ll have it done pretty quickly.

You should be able to transfer from your old iPhone to a new iPhone without needing extra iCloud storage. Use Quick Start

I thought I’d done this previously without getting the cloud. How do you do it or does it somehow just do it as part of the process when you start your new iPhone?

5. Choose how you want to transfer your data.
If you download from iCloud, your apps and data will be downloaded in the background so that you can start using your new device straight away.
If you transfer directly from your previous device, you'll need to wait for the transfer to be finished on both devices before you can use them.

You'll may need to reset the new iPhone to activate Quick Start.

I'd back up the old iPhone first.

You literally put the new iPhone next to your old iPhone and like magic….

As already said you may need to reset the new one, back up your old one and try again.
