I'm currently going through a few Microsoft virtual training days.
They say that they are "live", but it's just a pre-recorded video shown at specific times.

Due to me being a bit thick, i sometimes want to go over certain topics, but having to wait for the next live training day to pop up is annoying at best.

Is there a free tool that i can use, that will record the video and audio, and output a file that so I can watch again at my own pace?

Try Screenpal ( aka screencast-o-matic) I use that to record demo screencasts, etc. Not sure how well it will work for long format recording, though.

Thank you, i'll take a look. I have one training session coming up later today.

Edited to add
I've just seen that there is a 15min record limit for the free one. However, It's only $6 for a month. Not too bad at all.

Don't discount just sticking your phone over your shoulder.

It's crap, however if it's just you watching, why not?

Quick, easy, more than enough to remind you, that's almost certainly what I'd do.

Just gave that a whirl.
It doesn't allow capture of anything but a game frown

Just tried that, seems to work. Bring the window to the front, then use Win-G keystroke and press the record button.
