Roku 4k stick - no end of problems
Discussion
Hi all
I've had the above since Aug last year and it's always been problematic. It's supposedly got an upgraded WiFi chip in it but it wouldn't reach the router (which, to be fair is the other side of the house) so I bought a powerline adapter with WiFi.
The remote keeps disconnecting so I have to reconnect (it's WiFi or BT - not IR).
I removed the remote and readded which worked OK for a few weeks but has now gone on the blink again. It'll Just not work for minutes at a time so I have use the app on my phone and now when I'm navigating the menu etc, it's started to skip multiple times rather than single apps.
I have to unplug on a regular basis and it feels very warm when I touch it.
I have 3 other rokus so reluctant to change to a firestick but I wonder if the 4k media player rather than another stick would work better? Do we think the heat has screwed it up?

I know this isn't the question you asked as I can't comment on the Roku but we bought an NVidia Shield Pro device and it's been absolutely great. It's a full Android TV device so there's a great selection of apps including just about every streaming service under the sun, as well as game streaming etc. if you want it.
It replaced a Firestick which we had very similar problems as you describe with your Roku device. Other than the price (I gather there are non-Pro versions available for less though) I can't recommend the NVidia device highly enough.

Thanks mate, appreciate the input. Will Have a ponder. Is it easy to use? It replaced a Firestick which we had very similar problems as you describe with your Roku device. Absolute doddle, far, far better interface than the Firestick. Has the Amazon Prime Video app as well though obviously. We use it on an oldish Sony 1080p smart TV with a Sonos Playbar, with a little fiddling in the settings the remote for the Shield happily controls all three devices. Feels very slick and well integrated, everything is right where you want it, at least IMHO.Nothing to add, other than I'm in need of a Streaming Box as our 8 year old Sony Android TV is sluggish. I need to access Plex for Live TV and DVR, Netflix, Prime, Iplayer, ITVX etc etc. I have a Firestick upstairs but the Amazon aspect is a bit overwhelming so was considering a Roku, this has changed my mind!
Fire TV Cube vs Nvidia Sheild seems the 2 best options for speedy devices.

Have you swapped it with one of the other Rokus to determine whether it's the unit at fault or something in the environment causing the issue?
Can you hardwire the Roku via the powerline? I have all our media and TV devices including a Firestick connected via ethernet and have virtually no issues. Whereas I find wifi connections unstable and requiring much greater intervention.

Thanks for the responses all.
I may well change the Roku unit to see if it's the location and have found the receipt to exchange if need be. I just dread having to set it all up all over again but better that than not being able to use.
We bought a new Panasonic TV around the same time which has some apps but not as user friendly.
