Relative is coming from my old iPhone X but that has run its course.

Budget sub £200, really only needs to have a good screen, email and whats app. 5G not needed.

Suggestions please?

Have a look at Amazon-Renewed

Why should being elderly be a factor? Let's have less of the ageism here. (SWMBO > 70 and loves here iPhone)

The Moto G Line are usually well reviewed as a budget option, i'm currently on a G9 Power and it does everything i need it to do.

It’s for my mum, who unfortunately has been a victim of fraud via her phone, so her confidence is shot. I want to keep it simple for her and she doesn’t need 5G and the latest snapdragon processor to stream films. It’s needs to do the basics well, elderly is just adding context for suggestions.

This. The G line are pretty much without exception the best budget smartphones out there. Capable for every day, well built and priced reasonably. Downsides are typically the camera.

If you're more concerned about screens/cameras probably head for the Xiaomi's.

Ultimately, because there will be some kind of concession at budget level, pick what they can live without the most/use least.

If she's coming from an iPhone, surely another iPhone will be the best option?

I think they are really poor value at that price point for a refurbished phone.

You just need to consider if they will be able to transition to a £200 Android phone. Everyone’s different and you’ll know best

What is wrong with the current iPhone X? If the battery has gone, a new one is only £50.

Thanks for the input and food for thought, to close the loop. By chance I was reading Stuff magazine, and they mentioned the TCL 40se as the best budget phone so I went for it. It came today and I set it up. Pleasantly surprised TBH, obviously it doesn’t feel as premium as an iPhone but screen is bigger and it’s feels ok swapping between apps.

I could of swapped the battery on the iPhone but TBH old eyes and old hands I think a slightly bigger screen and better screen will suit her.

Definitely don't swap from Apple to Android imo. I wouldn't do it to myself, nor anyone else.

Depending on how long she's used an iPhone for, switching eco systems I'd really suggest you don't do!

I'm a long term Android user and would argue against this, but for an elderly person it is better sticking with what they know!
