Morning all,
So I have an iPad mini2 16GB which I use a lot for perusing the internet, reading PistonHeads! Looking at websites and a few apps.
It runs IOS12 and apparently won’t go beyond that. Which is a shame as it works perfectly and I like it.
So increasingly web sites come up with a message saying unsupported.
I think I read it’s no longer as secure either, so I am reluctant to buy anything on it, or use it for banking.
So it appears I am going to have to replace it. Looking at new iPads, they are silly money.
It looks like an amazon fire8 at a £100 would probably do, would it?
Or any other suggestions?

10 years use from It is a good stint. Just a thought but an iPad 9th generation is £369 for 64gb from Apple. Or £36.90 per year if you get another 10 years from it.

If you like the size, you can get a 64GB iPad Mini 5 from the Apple Refurb store for £339.

...or a 9th Gen 64GB iPad for £309.

But most of the Android (or Amazon version of) tablets will suffice, and ae usually much cheaper. May not last 10 years though.

Everybody seems like to like Android tablets but I find them generally rubbish compared to the Ipad, especially at the mini end of the size spectrum.
You could try the Amazon one and simply return it for free if you don't like it.

I usually buy Apple stuff on Ebay, new but imported from overseas, at a big discount.

If you don't mind a slightly larger one, something like the 5th gen ipad can be had pretty cheaply.

Latest iPAD mini is great if you like the smaller size.

I bought a 'refurb' iPad Mini 6 from eBay only a month or so ago, for £366 (with discounts/vouchers) to replace my iPad Mini 2. Purchased from Music Magpie, and apart from the box having one corner a bit damaged, it was perfect and you wouldn't know it was a 'refurb'.

It is significantly better than the mini 2, in speed, screen quality etc. Not a big fan of the loss of the home button (my work phone is an iPhone SE simply because I couldn't give up the home button), but I am slowly getting used to it. Wife has an Android tablet that she likes, but I have such a collection of eBooks in Apple Books I wanted to keep the iPad, and it has lasted me a long time.

I replaced an Ipad mini 1 with the Mini 6. The 6 is a very good tablet but largely over kill for most tasks although my view was if it lasted another 10 years, then the higher cost mattered less.

The Amazon tablets, if bought for less than <£100, are bargains. However, they are noticeably “slower” and after a couple of years are really slow. If your just doing basic web browsing then fine, but over an equal time period, once you have factored in a couple of replacements, the lifetime cost is closer.

The more cost-effective answer might be a mid-range android device or a refurb mini 5.

I've been an Android user for the better part of the last 14 years way back to when the G1 was released. Tried the Nexus 7 which was excellent for its time but anything after just didn't do it.

Have an iPad now which is perfect but slowing slightly so thinking replacing it with a mini might be beneficial for its form factor.
