We have been with Vodafone for our broadband for a while now, but only get about 35 Mbps over WiFi with their router. We've just got a ZTE 5G router from '3' to use upstairs, and noticed it is considerably faster than our Vodafone router by giving us around 167Mbps. That's quite some difference and we are probably going to get another one for downstairs to replace the Vodafone router.

So what makes it faster?

I'm assuming the Vodafone is Broadband i.e. connected to your phone line?

The 5G router is NOT using your broadband, but the 5G mobile signal.

Or am I missing the point?

Luke.

Ah right, so it's just using 5G, didn't realise that. It was gifted to us so not something I researched to purchase. It does seem impressive bit of kit though.

Run a speedtest on speedtest.net and see what the difference is in your ISPs, I would guess the 3 one will show 3 4G or 5G and the other one will show you are on a Vodafone broadband line.

I've found 4G to be quicker than an old broadband line a few times now so is often someting I look at in areas where fibre isn't available.

Perhaps a better 5g signal from Three than Voda.

I’m considering the 3 offering, when my Virgin is up soon (will be a price hike)

Their checker says i’ll get fast 5g:-
£20 a month
Can return if it’s no good

I’ll get it in and tested/working a few weeks before the inevitable price increase is kindly offered, won’t jump through the hoops again..

I've had Three 5g broadband for the last eighteen months. Been ultra reliable from day one.
