Has anyone got a recommendation for an Android app to track the whereabouts of a family member (in this case an elderly one), perhaps alerting if they are stationery outside of a geofence for more than say 15 minutes?

This would be for my FIL, who is in his 80s. I think he would be content for us to track him as his phone is something of a safety blanket that gives him confidence when out and about, as he can call on us for help. We wouldn't install anything surreptitiously and would obviously get his permission first. So, it doesn't need to be some sort of stalkery app, nor an app designed to resist teenage attacks to disable it. It would also need to work on Android 7 as his phone is also somewhat elderly...

His Android version is nearly as old as he is.

Indeed... Hence I thought it relevant in case the easy response is "that feature is already built in to the Pixel 7, dummy!"

You can share locations continuously with Google maps. No idea if there a geofence alarm setting though. I'd have thought you could use it to set up an alert using ITTT.

Depending on the level of concern it might be worth looking at stand alone units. Battery should last a lot longer and less chance of accidentally running phone flat.

My mum has one of these home units, it only goes 75-100m from the base station, it has fall detection.
In her case the council covers the cost, has been used in ‘anger’ a couple of times when she has fallen over, called me within minutes, ambulance had already left for hospital by the time I got there an hour later.

You can get gps units as well, my dad has dementia, when he was still at home he had a gps unit for when he went on a walk on his own. Something like/ similar to this :

We use life360 in our family for basic updates on where everyone is. No idea on the geofencing though.
