I am making a small prototype.

I have a very specific need for a dual micro usb b cable with 1 90 deg end, 1 straight end and a female connector and roughly 10 cm length.

Needless to say ... despite a lot of searching I cant find anything that fits the bill. I have looked at alternatives but nothing will work without a lot of extra work to the rest of the prototype.

So are DIY usb cables a thing, and if so does anyone have a suggestion on where I can get the components to try and make my own?

Thanks

I made USB cables years ago and it is a complete pain.

I'm sure you can buy or get a company to build you one. Have a look: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=Usb%2090%20...

That could work! Is that AliExpress?

  • * Edit - found it on AliEx. Thanks!
Looking at those images, does a USB need anything more than shrink wrap over the terminals?

I cut and join USB cables a lot. I have a lot of ESP8266 based sensors in my smart home and often cut usb cables to hardwire power or shorten or extend. I even use old damaged cables as a source of 4 core cable. Its easy only 4 wires

Red = 5V
Black = GND
Green = data
White = Data

Poundland is a good source of cheap cables to cut, not seen right angle ones there though.

Doesn’t the spec make a difference?

The earlier usb is quite nice, the latest spec appears to be quite hefty, if I remember correctly.

I’d looked to adjust a usb type c 3.2 and I gave up just looking at the spec of the cable I’d be cutting through!
