Can anyone help with IMAP email/Apple Mail issue please?
Discussion
Hi All
My email is with Plusnet, have been for 20+ years. No problems until recently…
I received any email saying I was close to my limit, but as I have folder saved to my Mac in Apple Mail that I move emails from my IMAP folders to I was surprised. It's then that I noticed the emails in my IMAP folders - which once synchronised perfectly, differed across my devices. I therefore removed the account on my MAC, and since adding it again its downloading 10,000+ emails somewhere. Deleting (and from trash) they just appear after sometime!
I've found the folder that has my MAC stored folders in, as I thought about saving these externally and resetting my MAC completely, but the first 2 folders below have the same named folders but different memory sizes!
Mega confused!
Help appreciated, thanks!

I would suggest contacting your email host, because it is possible that your account has been hacked and is being used to send thousands of spam emails.
Alternatively, try accessing it with a windows machine and an email client like Thunderbird.
Some of these accounts which have been around a long time are kind of orphaned, I've heard of email accounts still hosted by long defunct ISPs, the customer hasn't paid anything for 25 years.
Because of the spam issue, I think you should take this moderately seriously and consider getting help from somebody who's more up to speed than I am.

It's not the technical fix, but in my opinion there are far better options for email than using your past or present internet providers system. Gmail or iCloud mail (as you're a Mac mail user) would both be decent alternatives and keeps your email service separate from whichever ISP you use.
Hi, thanks so much for all of the input.
As alluded to above, Plusnet confirmed that they are not really investigating in their email/webmail service, as they don’t give addresses anymore due to people going for web based email addresses.
So, after having the same email address for all these years, I’m moving over the gmail (I already had an email as backup).
New question, anyone know why this folder is shown greyed out on my iPhone and iPad Mail Application?
Thanks again.
