Morning all.

Looking at getting my son a gaming PC. Budget up to about £900 or so. I think I've narrowed it down to the MSI Trident 3 or the HP Omen 25L. Not looking to self build, but just wondered which one you'd go for? Or is there anything else I've (more than likely) missed.

Or even this Scan?

Thanks all.

I’d keep an eye on the deals this chap posts - they’re typically about as competitive as you can get. There’s a mix of pre-builds and setup packs.

I have no experience with awd-it but taking one of those deals links above:

https://www.awd-it.co.uk/awd-observatory-lite-mesh...

Changes to improve spec up to budget:

CPU - 5600 (+£49.99)
RAM - Corsair 32GB Vengeance LPX 3600Mhz (+£49.99)
SSD - Western Digital SN570 2TB Gen 3 NVME (+£99.99)
Norton - No internet security

Total: £899.96

The only real weak link is the PSU but it should be ok.

Note: This doesn't include a windows license or a wifi adapter (only 1Gb Ethernet on the motherboard) so you would need to add those in if required.

The MSI one looks horrible, no airflow wierd build it doesn't have a normal motherboard IO (input/output) panel just ports in the plastic of the case, avoid.

HP like Dell I can't say too much bad about them because of the restraining order, but I wouldn't.

Scan, of the three this one, but I'd also look at AWD (posted above) they have lots of choices in your price range plus more than 1 or 2 specifications.

Other than that one if pushing right to the budget I'd say this 5600x/RTX 3060 build from Ebuyer - https://www.ebuyer.com/1537174-alphasync-diamond-a...

100% agree, plus the MSI only has a GTX 1660 graphics card.

I think a 3060 is the best you can expect for £900, going for a 3070 would push the price up to around £1100.

I bought something similar to this from these guys 3 years ago and been very happy with it

https://www.ebuyer.com/1541935-alphasync-pba-diamo...

Obviously the newer ones are with more up to date components, and I've added 16GB of RAM to take it to 32GB, but it runs most games at high resolution and seems like a good mid-range gaming PC.

Just also to say you can buy cheap, legal, copies of Windows for about £15, so if ordering the SCAN system you could spend £100 on better components and then pick up a cheap Windows key rather than paying £113 for the OS. Spending over 10% of your budget on Windows seems mad. (https://www.gamekeydiscounter.co.uk/microsoft/windows/windows-11/windows-11-professional)

Because I know you're all on tenterhooks... smile

Ended up with one from Scan in the end. Set it up this morning. Brilliant bit of kit and my son was blown away. Quite jealous of his set up now...
