Whatsapp vs new sim!

Help me please.

My wife has changed her sim card and used a pac code to move number but using her old phone.

Everything is fine apart from Whatsapp which now has her old last name again and therefore all conversations are started anew.

Can anyone help with how to change Whatsapp back to how it was yesterday before the sim swop please.

I am guessing that when she put the new sim in, the new sim had the new number as it hadn't been ported yet and she said "Yes" when Whatsapp asked if she had a new number?

I got caught out with this one when doing my wife's phone to her annoyance.

I didn't appreciate that now WhatsApp is part of Meta that you have to migrate it separately. Then when she had her phone set up with her old number that you have to wait a couple of hours even though it says it is ready. So all the WhatsApp got migrated to the new number accidentally.

If you have a backup of WhatsApp then it is best to start again with the last back up if possible. In my case, I panicked and got back up set up but it backed up a new blank start.

Erm I understand the word backup, not sure what Meta is.

Treat me like your Nan and im trying to record your favourite tv programme please!

You have to put sim back in old phone open WhatsApp and backup (ie within the actual app, in settings or somewhere). Then when you move sim to new device you can restore from backup(again I mean from within WhatsApp)

Sorry i think i have confused people.

It is the same device but with a new sim.

the number has been moved from the old sim to the new sim via a PAC code.

Ok same advice though I would try and put the old sim back in the phone, even though the number has been allocated to new sim. Open WhatsApp, go to settings, chat backup chats etc assuming you can.

If the old SiM has been deactivated then this option may not work (as when you port your no the old SIM get de-activated)
