Hello,

My friend (yes really i have a few friends that are real and not in my head, shocking i know) has managed to get herself banned from one of the dating apps (no you cant have pictures) and if she tried a new number with said app, the app/phone has a hissy fit and eventually said the device had been blocked due to being linked to her old number.

Anyway, shes upgraded her phone which now has dual physical sim (samsung s22). Obviously her old number is taking up slot one, but if she puts a new sim card into slot 2, would the app recognise that the phone is linked to sim 1's phone number or would it all be good to go?

I have no idea what she did to get banned from the app's but reading around, it seems quite common. My google results suggests that she should get a burner phone and new number but i dont think she cba with having 2 phones on the go. i did say why not try it anyway and see but she doesnt want to do that so im wondering if anyone else knows?

Thanks

If it's SA she'll need a new email as well as a new phone number. Or so my friend tells me.

She could try installing something like Parallel Spaces or using the Secure Folder on her Samsung as well which might provide some more isolation between the app & the other SIM card. They might still link her to the old account via her home IP address though.

Whats SA?

So the apps can still see other numbers on the phone then? I was reading that some device bans only last 3-6 months so i guess she might get lucky with a 2nd card in the phone or not really?

Though i guess it wont hurt her to try anyway?!?

Technically I think this problem is only solvable by first finding out what she did to get banned.

I asked her but she doesnt know, reading up on it (got abit of free time) it seems quite common for dating apps to ban someone on the say so of another user. She thinks it might have been that she cancelled on a guy a few hours before a date but Hinge wont say as it breeches rules and regs and to protect other users

Not sure if you get a few chances but looks like its a one and done.

I guess she'll just have to suck it up and see what happens if she mixes her sim cards in the phone unless someone more knowledgeable in this field answers?

Maybe if she is banned then she should just accept it and move on??? Even if she manages to circumvent the ban it'll only be a matter of time before she gets banned again or gets found out. Then she is back to square one anyway.

It's dificult to know how much information the app can see but I've found Parallel Spaces allows me to install multiple versions of Whatapp for instance. There are so many different sources of data an app can track that it's difficult to know if using PS or the Samsung Secure Folder will work but it can't hurt to try.

Just sign up again with a new email. If she gets banned again then it's obviously her conduct on the app that's the problem. I doubt the phone itself is blocked - more likely the account that was deleted.

No its a device ban and linked to her number, hence why she's wondering if a dual sim phone will also result in that being blocked as well. She doesnt want to go down the 'burner' phone route unless she needs to

I agree but sadly the dating world seems to have moved on from meeting people naturally or hoping to and app dating throws the net out wider/further then the possibly normal drunken guy she encounters on a night out. I know my cousin, when on a night out is not interested in guys and just there for a girls night out then just uses the apps for dating. Crazy i know but its the way of the world now it seems

AIUI a 'burner phone' is useful when on dating sites. If you stumble across a crazy you are insulated

ok thanks, ill let her know.

All she said was that last time she used a different number in the blocked phone, it flashed up about the phone being locked.

If not, i guess itll be a cheap burner phone for her

Things must have come on a bit since my brief foray into online dating over 12 years ago. Back in the day I had my POF account deleted for reasons best known to their overzealous admin. Signed up again with the same email address and no issues going forward!

So to round out this thread, managed to convince her to try this experiment as shes deleting the app soon and new phone coming;
  • Friend put burner dating sim into the new phone with the banned number with it in dual sim mode (so both Sims are active)
  • Signed up to Hinge with Burner Sim number in new phone
  • All went through though couldnt upload pics from Dropbox, she cant link to Insta/FB as they was linked to the banned account
  • leant her an old phone of mine (burner sim into this one), couldnt upload pics from DB either
  • had to download the images onto the phone to then upload
The 'interesting' part to me is that the new phone and banned number can still access Hinge via being logged in with the burner sim number, despite the sim not being present.

Id imagine if she used the banned sim to log in then shed get a device ban again but doesnt look like (currently) hinge can detect the banned sim in a new phone using a sim that isnt present - if that makes any sense?
