Help your old dad out here please:
When I upgraded my phone from a Oneplus-5 to a Oneplus-8, I managed to mash enough buttons that everything just transferred to my new phone, as if it were my old phone.. ( there may have been a transfer App involved)

If I were to change brands to a Google Pixel 6a, how will the replication of my old phone onto the new phone transpire please?

For context: my Oneplus 8 has dead pixels in the camera.

Much thanks in advance.

Theyre both Android so it should be seamless

Ive been on the platform for over a decade and move from brands each time I chop my phone without stress

Yes you will be asked to connect both of them using a USB cable.

I've done exactly the same as you're asking ie swapped from OnePlus to OnePlus and OnePlus to Google and back. I don't believe you'll need to connect them from memory it'll be over Bluetooth/WiFi and using your Google login credentials. Very straightforward and I think slightly easier than the OnePlus set up.

I swapped from a WileyFox Swift 2x to a OnePlus 6

Before I swapped, I ensured my phone was backed up to Google.

Then when I set the new phone up, I was prompted to restore from a backup, and was given a list of backups to choose from (obviously this was following setup of the Google account and wireless connection).

Obviously, you need to use the same Gmail / Google login on both phones.

if you use Whatsapp, trigger a backup before switching.
Mine backups once per week I think, so can lose messages when swapping phones otherwise.

I switched from oneplus to Samsung they have an app called smart switch, install on both phones connect with a cable follow the prompts and leave it to do its stuff. I left it for a good while and it seemed to get stuck at 99% for ages so I unplugged it and restarted it and most of everything was transferred over, in fact I couldn't see what if anything was missing. All photos, text messages, phone numbers, apps were all there.

I started with Google (Nexus 4), then went to OnePlus 1 and 2 because of the price. At the time they were about half the cost of the equivalent Google phone and in many ways better with higher internal specs. I was also using GiffGaff so was off contract and buying the phones outright. I then had I think the OnePlus 6 then the 7 Pro Mclaren edition before I decided they were now charging the same as the main brands and it wasn't worth it anymore. The 7 Pro I loved, no issues at all but I wanted something newer and the Google 6 Pro was a better deal on a contract.

I think OnePlus is still one of the best "clean" Android experiences you can get and I think the company is genuinely good at innovating. I still use two different sets of headphones from them (well one pair of OnePlus and one pair of Nothing).

smart switch works very well. Bought an Honor X7 end of 22 as it looked like I was losing the work phone. It worked very well over WiFi.
