My son spilled apple juice on my wife’s IPAD which now won’t turn on. We hadn’t realised he had drowned the IPAD, just thought it was on the carpet so didn’t have chance to try to get the liquid out straight away.
It’s been left for a couple of days to dry out but this doesn’t seem to have fixed things.
It’s an IPAD air (circa £400 to replace via Apple refurb)
Question - is it likely Apple can repair it relatively cheaply or should we just look to replace?

It's iPad by the way.
Anyway it might be repairable it might not, will very much depend on what said liquid did to it inside. Only way you would find out is if it is opened up, there are repair kits you can buy that allow you to open them up and plenty of YouTube guides of how to open them, then its up to you

Even a new battery seems prohibitively expensive. My daughter's iPad, which we bought off a friend second hand is in great condition, but the battery life is only about 20 minutes.
I contacted a local repair shop, who quoted about £100 - basically said risky procedure as the bonded-on screen has to be removed, and it's easy to break (which would then be their liability).
I remember the good old days with the older mobiles, where replacing the battery was a 30 second procedure!

Apple? Skinning people for batteries? Well I never.I contacted a local repair shop, who quoted about £100 - basically said risky procedure as the bonded-on screen has to be removed, and it's easy to break (which would then be their liability).

Before you know it, they'll be removing ports, locking their software and bricking the OS's.
It's almost like a deliberate business model.......

What generation iPad? Apple do battery replacements and are not costly, prob about £99 - I'd rather be sending to Apple to do than some some local store who don't know how to do it properly (by their own admission) and for £1 less! I think it’s looking like my son will be spending a chunk of his XMAS and birthday money on a replacement
Oof. Tough in your house. He’s spilt a drink 4 times over the last few weeks by not paying attention to what he is doing. Watching his Ipad whilst ‘feeling’ for his drink
He’s been warned repeatedly not do it and this time he’s caused more damage than just a wet carpet
He’s 14 so needs to take responsibility for his actions
As I said above I feel mean for doing it but he has to learn

Haven’t heard this one trotted out for a while, especially as we have two MacBooks that are nearly 10 years old with constant daily use and abuse one of which had just had the battery replaced by Apple for the extortionate price of £199.

Thanks all
Apple wants £459 to ‘fix’ it which is more than a return model costs
Spoke to a local phone repair chap and he’s basically said it’s not an easy or cheap fix…. He didn’t want to do it
Looks like a refurb is the best option
The greedy sods quoted me about the same for a New screen.Apple wants £459 to ‘fix’ it which is more than a return model costs

It turned out to be their stty software and the problem went away.
Apple care about profits and that's all.

Without presumption or patronising, could I suggest a short period of penance before either matching any effort he puts in or saving some of his hard work for a later date.
Weren't we all clumsy ignoramuses at that age!
But I leave to your judgement of course.
I just feel for the lad

With regards to the IPad, they are an absolute pain to do anything yourself. I used to comfortably open iPhones and replace various bits but wouldn't touch an iPad -- all the glue is just a nightmare. It does make for a 'good' product, but terrible if anything goes wrong.
Even the new phones are a challenge, I make sure I take out AppleCare+ as anything goes wrong and they just give you a new (refurbed) phone.
