I bought a laptop in around 2012 which came with windows 8 (did not believe it could be as bad as I was told). Later received free upgrade to windows 10. About 18 months ago it would only work at a snails pace, could not clear, replaced. The only thing on it of any value is a large collection of photos which I will transfer next week. I would like to get the laptop working again to use as a family spare.

Questions
if I go for a factory reset will it restore to windows 8 or 10
if it restores to windows 8 will I be offered the free upgrade or required to pay
would I be better off restoring to a date in say 2019
should I ignore the restore method and have another go at solving the problem
should I take it for re-cycling

thank you in advance

Is there a hidden Recovery partition on the drive? I remember Vaios had one & you could literally do a factory reset atthe push of a button as it re-installed from the Recovery partiton.

If you're talking about a Windows System Restore then if you restore it to a date after the Windows 10 upgrade it should restore to Windows 10.

Download Windows Media Creation tool onto a usb drive, boot from that usb drive, delete all old partitions and Bob’s your uncle.

Don’t bother restoring from a 12 year old recovery partition of an out of date o/s.
