I’ve followed these instructions:

https://www.draytek.co.uk/support/guides/kb-router...

All went well as it’s working as an AP

However, I cannot access the Draytek’s web interface when I go to 192.168.1.2 (via Wi-Fi, when connected to either the router or the Draytek AP).

Does anyone know how I can connect to the web interface to change the SSID etc? I’ve tried a few different IP addresses but I just can’t connect

When you're on the WiFi, is 192.168.1.2 the default gateway that your machine picks up? I would expect it to be 192.168.1.1. Also make sure you're adding http:// infront as most browsers default to https (e.g. http://192.168.1.1).

There are settings to restrict access to mgmt ports on the Draytek but I think they'd allow LAN/WLAN access by default. You could try plugging in via wired ethernet to double check. The access settings are under system maintenance -> management -> LAN access setup.

No, the default gateway is 192.168.1.1
But my interpretation of the instructions on the link above is that I should change the address of the Draytek to 192.168.1.2 , which I have done.

192.168.1.1 takes me to the router
But I don’t know how to get to the Draytek

I don’t have access to a wired connection at the moment, was hoping to resolve without

Ah fair enough, using separate router + wifi controller. Can you ping 192.168.1.2 ? Another trick is after trying to ping it, run "arp -a" and see if it's resolved a valid MAC address for it. If it's blocking pings but on the network then it'd show up in the ARP table.

I will see if I can get access to a hardwired connection to try this

You can give that a try on wifi too, it ought to let you ping it if that IP address is correct.

I've tried pinging 192.168.1.2 - nothing.....

Any other ideas?

To summarise:
- I have a Sky Broadband router
- I want to use a Draktek Vigor2860ac as a wireless access point
- I've followed the instructions here exactly: https://www.draytek.co.uk/support/guides/kb-router...
- It works, and I can access the internet using the Draytek Wireless signal
- However, I can't find a way to access the Draytek Web Configuration page to change the SSID, password etc

I have also factory reset the Draytek and tried again, same result...

Thanks in advance all!

Sounds like the Draytek could be on some other IP instead of the static one or the Sky router is giving that address out to something else.

You'll need to have a look on the Sky router to see what is connected to it and check the IP is showing properly for the draytek then try connecting to that IP. You will likely need to be on the wifi of the draytek for this to work just incase it is still routing and you don't have access enabled from the WAN side.

I cannot see the Draytek even when looking at what's connected to the Sky router!!
I also did a network scan using an app called Fing. It shows everything except the Draytek.

Sounds like the Draytek is on a different subnet. I think Sky mostly use the 192.168.0.XXX range, so unless you have changed this intentionally I would expect the Draytek to have a static IP of something like 192.168.0.2, not 192.168.1.2

Text above says the OP is reaching his Sky router on 192.168.1.1 so in theory 192.168.1.2 should be same subnet unless he has messed a mask up somewhere.

Does seem strange that the draytek is dissapearing. Does the draytek have a port you can plug in to and run a packet capture?

It's possible that I've messed up the subnet. I will check when I'm next on site in a couple of days.
I wouldn't know how to run a packet capture, but will Google it!

I used to work at Draytek (many moons ago) and the first thing we'd ask is if you've plugged in directly. Support might also ask you to try different firmware to kick it into play (was an issue on some devices back in the day, not sure if that problem should even exist anymore). They've completely revamped the procedure (and site) now so get in touch with them if need be.

I was going to suggest Fing.

Have you tried scanning for Wifi Newtworks to see if you can see something called Draytek ? It is weird though as if you have factory reset it then DHCP will be enabled so it should get an IP from the router. WiFi analyser is good app for this although won't give you the IP.

Maybe try the factory reset again as the IP could be fixed and set to pretty much any range if you didn't open the box yourself ?

Thanks for your reply.

After performing the factory reset, I followed the instructions on the Draytek website link I posted above, to configure the unit as a Wireless Access Point. During this process, it asks me to change the IP address to 192.168.1.2 - which I did.
After this, I can indeed see the Draytek SSID, and I can also connect to it. It also serves up the internet with no problems. So it does work as intended as a Wireless Access Point.

However, I cannot connect to the unit in order to access it's web configuration page. Perhaps, as others have suggested above, I should not have blindly changed it to 192.168.1.2 but rather 192.168.0.2 ?

What is the IP of your router ?

If you look on your phone when you are connected to your original WiFi you should see your IP address, if that is not 192.168.1.nn then you won't connect to your AP.

If you have changed the IP addreess and you are typing in that address but not connecting you are probably not on that network.

Or, whilst connected to the Draytek WiFi try it - bet you see the web page then.

I expect that you have got to the bottom of the problem and you need to change the Draytek AP to 192.168.0.2 which you can do once you are temporarily on the Draytek network range.

This was the issue!

I'm not really hugely confident with networking stuff, but enjoy trying to set things up!

Works perfectly now.

Thanks all!
