Recommend me a monitor - with screen split
Discussion
Hi,
I'm using 2 old Dell monitors that drive me insane.
Dell E2014H and a Dell E2011H both are 1600x900 (company provided)
I've had them forever when we used to work in the office, then we closed the office permanently during COVID. We are permanent WFH as it cut a massive amount from our office rent.
Anyway, physically they still work, and I can see this being the problem when I ask about getting them replaced despite the resolution being soooo 2010.
The right hand monitor has some "gack" leaking down the stem, and the left one won't adjust to the same height hence why it's sat on a DVD.
What I could do with are some recommendations for a single screen but I'll need split screen ability so I can run putty etc organised and do full screen Teams share without Putty visible during presentations.
I'm going to request a new monitor, if I don't request I'll never find out if the company will buy one. I'd never get replacement monitors without asking !

Err you can do a full screen share now without showing the second monitor
Split screen would allow you to run 2 separate machines connected to it at the same time
hmmm OK, maybe my terminology is incorrect.Split screen would allow you to run 2 separate machines connected to it at the same time
It might be that you can do it in W10 actually, so a reasonable work monitor recommendation.
We're not talking graphical design use or anything.
MS Office / Teams / Putty / web.
Nothing taxing to be honest graphically.

Might help to know what you're doing with them; writing docs or editing videos or high-quality visual design?
(Don't want to sound narky but if one of my guys came to me saying that they had a bit of nastyness on a monitor stand and the height wasn't great and could he have a new one then I'd suggest that he would be welcome to, but he'd be buying it himself. But maybe I'm just a bd of a boss.)

Document editing, Linux script editing, Putty, Zabbix, Qualys screens, graphically nothing too taxing.(Don't want to sound narky but if one of my guys came to me saying that they had a bit of nastyness on a monitor stand and the height wasn't great and could he have a new one then I'd suggest that he would be welcome to, but he'd be buying it himself. It's a bug bear that the monitors are old and the resolutions are crap more than anything else at 1600 x 900... they don't adjust either height wise.
It might be that I put my hand in my pocket and buy one, they have had a good innings to be fair as was given them new back in whenever. One had had the stand replaced as it had a docking station attached to a laptop that has long since gone.
Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is what you want then
https://www.samsung.com/uk/monitors/gaming/odyssey...
...or the LG 49WQ95C-W (if you want to be less 'gamer-stylee'
https://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-49wq95c-w
Both are the equivalent of two 1440p (2160x1440p) monitors in one item.
However, you may be better with a traditional ultrawide (instead of those super-wides above), in something like the LG 40WP95C-W

For 'productivity' the Super-Ultrawides are the way to go. ie. 32:9 aspect ratio instead of the regular 21:9 of an ultrawide.https://www.samsung.com/uk/monitors/gaming/odyssey...

IMO, a single Ultrawide can't replace a dual monitor setup although they are a good partner for a decent laptop screen.

I've got 1 x 34" 21:9 ultrawide and 2 x 27" 16:9 normal monitors...all the same vertical height, but every one of them a different resolution (3440x1440, 2160x1440, 5120x2880) IMO, a single Ultrawide can't replace a dual monitor setup although they are a good partner for a decent laptop screen.
Plus the 16" 1920x1080 laptop screen.
34" ultrawide would give some more pixels and similar physical size to the old dual monitor setup.
In Teams you can either share a single app, or for Powerpoint the "share presentation" mode works well now - supports things like the pens and pointer and lets you see presenter mode with notes etc while your audience just sees the slides. Could never get by with single monitor a few years back but quite happy to now.
I tend to leave my laptop lid closed but if I need a separate monitor for actual screen share then I use the laptop one. If that's something you use regularly and are using a desktop then no substitute for two separate monitors, get a pair of 24" 1080p screens and be done with it. None of the virtual screen splitting software I've tried actually convinces Teams that an area is a separate monitor.

I have both the Odyssey G9 49" and an LG 34" Ultrawide - i vastly prefer the LG as it's 'enough' real estate. The G9 is a little too much, and also the resolution just isn't crisp enough for my liking.
But it's a very personal choice - all i can really suggest is ensure your GFX card can run an ultrawide. And by run, i mean run it at at least 60Hz at the native resolution.
