Can anyone recommend a good host for my domain name and email accounts?

Easy for an IT muppet to understand, control and monitor?

I have a domain name, I don't really need the website any more, but if it's not adding much cost I'll keep it.
I /we use a few email accounts at <shed_domain>.co.uk, we'd like to keep these addresses as we've had them 10 years.
But I think my current domain host is not really geared towards amateurs like me, and having retired I no longer have an IT stoodent at my disposal.

Or should I just migrate to a free provider?

Google domains, and have all the emails set up in gmail (can send as them from within there too).
Something like £10 a year for the domain registration renewal.

I use Google and Krystal.

Google better for email, Krystal better for hosting.

To be clear, you're using a google service to host the email server?

Or do you just mean to access another service?

I use Google domains as well. You have a choice between paying for Google workspace, or else just forward to an arbitrary email address: I use my Gmail account and that works perfectly fine.

Using Google Workspace (formerly G-Suite) for email, and domain hosting.

Emails sent to loafer@loafer.com are accessed via Gmail servers, and are therefore extremely reliable, and great at spam filtering, too.

Currently with Names.co.uk, but they have been pushing the price up over the past few years for less service, so will have to investigate these alternatives.

Do you use Office 365? If so you can simply point your domain at that and do it that way.

Do you mean that you can send "from" your domain email address?

I have Google domain for £10 a year, and can use domain addresses that then get forwarded to whatever other address I choose (Outlook). But I can't send "from" those domain addresses - if I wanted to send a response, it would be from the Outlook address. Are you somehow replying "from" the domain address? (I know you get "proper" domain email addresses if you pay much more than £10).

Mythic Beasts. Was from a previous recommendation on here.

Costs £2 / month for email. Unlimited domains and inboxes, max 2GB storage and 25GB bandwidth.

I was up and running in about 2 hours after GoDaddy migrated to O365 and no longer supported a catch-all email inbox.

I certainly do. Rather than forwarding messages to your Outlook address, can you not just use the Google email server to retrieve and send emails?

I've been with Mythic Beasts since November last year and have not a single instance of needing to contact them so far - everything has been good and stable, no issues (currently 3 email accounts running through my web hosting package) and I'm happy with their service.

Previous recommendation might have been where I got the details from - many other options suggested in this thread - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Looking at Mythic Beasts reviews, it seems that a lot of Trustpilot reviews are from around September 21st last year - should I read anything into that?

I'm looking for web and email hosting in the next few weeks as my Ionos contract renews. Last year I made the mistake of not cancelling / renewing so have had to pay full price, and I'd like to get on to somewhere where I don't have to worry about these "special offers" and the like. ETA - I don't need much web space, so MB does look ideal on the face of it.

Do you mean £10 a year?

AIUI, one option is to move my shedbloke.co.uk to google domain hosting for about £10 a year.
Then all the emails to shed@shedbloke.co.uk, shedette@shededbloke.co.uk and <anything>@shedbloke.co.uk can all be tipped into a gmail inbox.
That would give me a year of catching anything that might matter, while we make sure everyone knows we are shed1954@gmail or whatever?
After a year, just cancel it, let the domain be history.

I don't think we need anything else.
After a year we just use free gmail or whatever accounts.
We're no longer exposed to one service, a single point of failure (which is likely a failure on my part to maintain it properly or really understand all the IT technobabble).

Does that make sense or am I digging myself a heffalump trap?

Thanks to everyone who's shared their thoughts, it's a big help.
