Since the weekend, whenever I've clicked on 'Comments' in FB, rather than expanding the drop-down thread a new pop-out window appears containing the comments.

It's a real PITA which I can't find a way to prevent. Any ideas?

Can't help, but I've noticed the same and it is bloody annoying. Watching.

I can't believe no one else finds these new feature annoying. Doesn't anyone else on PH (still) use FB?

I think everyone has accepted that the FB UI sucks and just sighs when they break it again with some pointless change.

Yes, that's been annoying me too. Along with 99% of the rest of the FB "choices" - randomly picking whether I see "most relevant", "top comments" or "all comments" being high on the list. Too many to list, now I come to think about it.

Does look like a code change on their side and not sure there will be an option to disable it.

Here's where I've found some advice though I've yet to try it: https://www.theinternetpatrol.com/stop-facebook-co...

I'm not getting that alert, has anyone else tried it?

I've tried it and don't get that, though I do get a pop-up asking for a donation, and then another asking for something else.

First option seems to be to open the post directly by clicking on it, which is going it interrupt the reading sequence even worse than the current pop-up thing does - at least when you close the pop-up, it goes back to where you were, which is usually impossible when you've clicked onto another post or mistakenly clicked on someone's profile when a hover window appears unexpectedly.

Most of the rest seem to be to read FB on a mobile, or make it think you're on a mobile, I haven't tried those. UI is poor enough when I can see what I'm doing.

You've confirmed what I'm seeing on that site.

I've now tried making FB think you're on a mobile; it stops the pop-up but it's like going back to the dawn of time in UI terms

I like the new pop-out thread style. Keeps the main page much neater.
