They aren't all spoof sites as they re-sell licence keys which is perfectly legal. Other posters have reported that CD Keys is legitimate & I have used this site:
https://softwarebase.uk/

The installation procedure can seem a bit weird but it does work although it's generally tied to one PC so you might have to shell out another £20 next time you change the PC.

You can still get standalone Office, in fact I think mine is old (2013) and it works fine, but you can get newer and buy a key relatively cheaply. Microsoft also sell Office Home & Student 2021 for a one off £120.

That said, Open Office will open word docs & powerpoint, and is free. Might be worth downloading trying if it's only for occasional use.

"Perfectly legal" is a stretch, as these are typically volume license keys which are being sold outside of the terms of the actual license agreement.

But they will work and MS are never going to check up, so for most intents and purposes they are indeed legit, for a certain value of legit.

Start by having a look at office.com, is there anything on your list that you can't just do online at no cost?

Then if your employer uses the Microsoft Home Use Program you can pay £60 a year for 6 x Office Licenses, one for all the family. (Or £50 I think for a single license) If you can make use of the 6Tb of storage that comes with it's cheaper than buying storage of someone else.

If that doesn't work, then a reseller licence for Office 2016 is probably a decent shout too.

Can you post a link that describes the reasons for this supposed non-legality? Preferably a good reference site not just some random news site. Last time this came up I posted a couple of links referencing court decisions but I can't be bothered to find them again.

If Microsoft had the power to take these sites down they could so so in a heartbeat, but they can't.

I'm not in the UK, but here in Belgium - if you have child(ren) in full-time education - you can download Office for free. All schools have a web portal for homework (students) and also a parent login. Via this login you can download Office 365 free and install it on up to 5 computers. It does auto-expire when your children leave school unless they go on to uni, in which case they can continue to use it via the uni system.

In the days before the school web portal, you could get a code to activate Office via the school.

Maybe worth checking whether this system exists in the UK?

No. That can't be right. After all, the UK is broken. Apparently.

To be fair, yes. Presuming that your unlimited number of people share a single computer.

Isn't the basic Office 365 subscription valid for up to 5 computers?

Yes. I pay said £80 a year, so I can install it on my PC, my laptop, Mrs Snuffy's Laptop and I also gave my old man a licence.

16 quid a year, to have the latest version of Office, is cheap as chips.

Of course, if you only need a single licence, then less so.

Indeed. You can get Office 365 Personal for £60/year, which is one user on 5 devices (one MS account, realistically). Office 365 Family is £80/year for six users, each with 5 devices. Office Home & Student is £120 for a perpetual license on one machine (and no mention of users).

To be fair compared with most software licensing it's almost straightforward biggrin

I normally wait until Amazon has the Microsoft 365 Family pack on offer (usually below £50) and buy a couple to keep me going for a couple of years.

Although I'm not so sure that it's the best/cheapest way to get the one-off standalone version of Office 2021 which I've seen for £80 on Amazon (alongside those £20 ones that post a sheet of paper to you with instructions to download from a 'dodgy' website).

I didn't know that ( i thought it was 6 devices in total, not 6 people, each with 5 devices). So I've just looked it up. It's slightly better in that it's unlimited devices, but each person can only be signed into 5 at once. But how many people have more than 5 devices anyway ?

And indeed, it's a doodle to share it with other people.
