Hi all, looking to build a gaming PC for VR and general gaming in the UK. Up to around £1200. I have a 27" Acer Predator XB271HU 1440p so looking to build around that. I can source an OS so that's also not required. I probably won't be looking at overclocking. Anyone on here lend a hand? I've not built one in around 8 years so unfamiliar with today's hardware nuances.

Don't play a lot of FPS games, mainly Rocket League, Subnautica, Pro Evo, The Forrest, Valheim and the likes. Also want to be able to play the odd VR game via Steam to the Quest 2.

Guessing I'm looking at a 3070 but seen a few folk favour the 3060 TI so unsure which one is the best option. Any help with the build appreciated.

Cheers

I think you can spend less than £1200 to play those games at 1440p. A 3060 Ti will be more than enough.

What’s the spec of your current machine? You may be able to reuse some parts.
Yeah thinking about future games and VR capability. For reference, my current GPU is a 970...

I've upgraded recently , and like you , was quite out of touch with changes. A few things I learnt.

i5 is a surprising price break point. Replaced my old i7 with a much newer i5 that is way faster.
Get NVMe M.2 storage for your new mobo. Cheap enough, fast as hell, and tidy.
3070 was the sweet spot for me. VR on Q2 via the desktop, plus some intense games . Cyberpunk, star citizen, etc. I run 2k.
PSUs can now have modular cabling. Nice and tidy.
Fans - my CPU and case fans were not expensive, but my PC is now silent, and whisper quiet under load. Lemme know if you're want the models.
Cases can now have no 5.25" bays - mine has none. Surprised me, but then I binned my Blu-ray drives as I realised I never used them.

Cool, cheers for the help. Looks like I'll be looking at an i5 with 3070 then. Any build suggestions welcome

Check out https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/guide/

It's a super useful site. The build guides are a great starting point, then you can read through the comments for user suggestions on where you might tweak certain components. Also handy to then 'build' your own PC and it will show you prices from all the online retailers.
