Recently swapped over to Virgin broadband and their router.
First thing I did was rename our Wi-Fi and change the password to something useable.
A couple of weeks back we needed a spare mobile phone so I found an old iPhone in the draw and tried to use that. It couldn’t find our network but could see the original virgin name.
Today I set up a ring doorbell and that was the same.
I had to set it up on the original network name and password that I’ve changed and everything else sees the new name and works fine.
What’s that all about?

I never dig into the settings but most wi-fi routers now in effect are two running simultaneously- one at 2.4GHz and one at 5Ghz. It is possible you only changed the settings for one of them ?

Agree - in fact you might have 4 possible SSIDs available - 2 for each frequency. They usually give you a guest SSID too.

If its changed back to its default then its possibly had a firmware/ software update thats reset. My SH3 seemed designed to do just that.
If thats not the case its likely a software bug.I would suggest if you are changing wifi names and other stuff that you do a config file backup it comes in handy if your router has to be reset or replaced.
I found the Virgin Superhub 1and 2 awful The revised SH2 actually good and the SH3 one of the dreariest pieces of IT kit I have ever owned
I found some tasks such as setting up fixed DHCP addressers on the SH3 to be ponderous at best its tendency to hiccup during tasks was painful.
The one I was invited to try out the square one that became the SH4 rather good
I quit virgin some 8 or 9 months ago due to ever increasing costs

However
No matter how poor or good the Virgin Superhubs were were I bettered them by using a seperate Netgear and later a magnificent Fritzbox router as a router with the Superhub in modem mode
