I have an M1 MacMini on my network to handle some music duties (Roon Core).

I access it via 'share screen' on my laptop when I'm at home - which seems the easiest way to control it - it's in a cellar and a fiddle to access... it also has no screen attached.

The problem is that it frequently changes its name from MacMini to MacMini (2) or (3) etc - when it does that, I can no longer share its screen. Roon never seems effected, it always finds it.

It's the only computer on the network other than my MacBook which has an entirely different name.

Any thoughts on why it might change its name so often and how I might stop it?

Thanks

somouk

Is it actually changing its name or is the file browser/system on the machine you are browsing to it from identifying it differently?

If you look in sharing on the mac, is it still called the same thing?

Is it on a static IP address on the network? If not then that would be where I would start.

I am not at home at the moment, so can't check... I am pretty sure it's changed in sharing.

It is already on a static IP as Roon prefers that.

It could be related to having both wired ethernet & wifi - my iMac would do this continually.

A quick search brings up this:

Thanks... it is wired and wifi as it happens. I'll turn off the wifi.

It seems to be this - thanks. smile

I turned off the wifi on the Mini as it's wired and therefore not needed. It's been stable since then. Cheers!
