Samsung SmartTag in luggage

Is anyone using a SmartTag to track a suitcase when traveling by air? I recently bought a couple of tags, but I've seen a YT video of a guy disabling the speaker on his. The idea being that he uses it on some expensive kit that he thinks might be stolen, and doesn't want the thieves to be able to cause the tag to ring and give away it's location. Is this a load of b**ll**ks? Is it in any way possible to cause a 'foreign' tag to ring?
