My wife has an iPhone and is wanting a 2nd calendar to use, but one that doesn't need to sync to main iPhone calendar (or any other calendar) and can be run independently with good editing/colour coding abilities. However, every one in the app shop seems to need to be able to sync with the main phone calendar.

It's annoying as when a new calendar is downloaded it just fills up with what's already in the main calendar and so you just end up with a duplicate calendar.

Any ideas?

Use fantastical and turn off all the other calendars in the view options?

I use Calendars 5 and I can show/hide my Apple calendar or any of a few other calendars I've got going on. Pretty sure they're all linked to something external though (a shared Outlook email address, gmail, etc.) so I'm not certain if that's exactly what you need.

I'm not sure what's going on with the company making it though, the one I use is this one for $30 (paid a lot less a few years back):
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/calendars-5-by-readd...

But the one linked from their website is this on at $20 per year
https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id608834326...

But you get a free trial confused

Thanks chaps will give them a go.

I've got Android and there are so many apps that can run as standalone programs but for some reason every single Apple app store app so far seems to need to sync to the iPhone calendar and I can't work out why

I'm not sure if you have a specific reason to need a new third party calendar, but you can easily add new iCloud calendars by clicking Calendars at the bottom of the iphone calendar app, then Add Calendar > Add Calendar and select the colour you want it to appear as.

Alternatively you can show existing calendars linked to third party email accounts (e.g. gmail) in the iphone calendar with their own colour coding. They will all be visible to show/hide when you click the Calendars button in a calendar view.

She just wants a simple money calendar (where you can see at a glance what payments are coming out when) without having to go in to the existing calendar, go to the calendar choice, select/deselect what is and isn't required for it to then show just the simple info.

So the requirement is for a blank calendar template without any linking or syncing to any other details or calenders that can just have entries, have them colour coded and recurring instantly viewable when the app opens, and you can see a month at a glance of the entries without having to go into each date. I'd say it's not much to ask as I have one for my Android phone and it cost $4 and works perfectly. The Apple stuff is expensive and vastly over engineered to link and sync with others.
