Mac, run two WhatsApp desktop apps?
Discussion
I've been running two instances of WhatsApp desktop App on my now Mojave iMac for years, one for my Buisness number and one for personal, been working well for years. I've just updated my MB Air to Ventura and I cannot get it to work the same way, anyone have any ideas?
I can download two instances, rename one to say, WhatsApp2, but when I try and open both, the 2nd will not open. Works ok on my Mojave iMac.

I've answered my own question, but will leave it here in case anyone searches for similar.
On the Mac, download one version of WhatsApp desktop from the App Store. Download the 2nd version as a .dmg via your browser from the WhatsApp web site, open and install, rename if you want.
You can then run the two apps simultaneously using two different log-ins. I have one for my personal number and one for my business number.
I also run two apps on my iPhone, the standard WhatsApp App and the WhatsApp Buisness app.

Hi, does this still work?
I have macOS Sonoma on my MacBook Pro and tried this. I already had Whatsapp desktop installed for my personal number (don't know if I had downloaded this by the App Store or from the WA website)
I renamed it to 'Whatsapp 1' in my Applications folder, but then downloading WA desktop from the Mac app store downloads but says cannot install at the end.
I then tried downloading it from the WA website which works, and I have the two desktop apps in my applications folder, but when trying to open the new one with the old renamed one open it says 2 instances are running, please close other one first..

If you don't have to be tied to desktop apps, run one account on the app and another on the web in browser at https://web.whatsapp.com
Still working for me running Sonoma.
Try deleting the current app and starting again. You might need to get rid of all the library files as well. Do some searching, but something like this.

Ensure you have Whatsapp set up on your phone, so you have the account and chat history etc saved .

This has now stopped working, the WhatsApp downloaded from the website has stopped working, no longer supported. I have tried to download the latest version from the website, when I open it, it just opens the appstore version.
So now looking for an alternative way of running two different WhatsApp instances, any ideas? Running one in a browser is an option, but no ideal.
