Hi all.
I am lookin to buy a simple switch, that works with my phone Bluetooth.
So when I open my Bluetooth, I want to see a device, so when I press the device, it gives a signal to the remote hardware switch.
Just a simple normally open contact suits my needs.

What's the difference between that and a smart plug?

Every thing and nothing I guess, depending on the application.

I think you need an intermediary of some sort. IFTTT will use Connect to a Bluetooth Device as a Trigger, Tasker is a local App that can do stuff based on your Bluetooth connection, but might be less able to talk to your remote switch, whatever you use for that.

Home Assistant is a much more robust approach as it'll let you do pretty much anything with anything.

Are you connecting your phone to a Bluetooth device that's plugged into an amplifier and you want the amplifier to turn on? I have that setup but use Chromecast Audio as the receiver, it's much better audio solution. I have the amplifiers turned on with a smart plug and Home Assistant is configured to turn the switches on if the Chromecast is playing anything. That approach means that your phone auto-connecting when you're not playing doesn't turn the amp on and anyone can use the Chromecast without having to configure anything on their phone.

Hi,
I want to be able to open my garage door with my phone.
Currently garage door has its own fob.
I want to not need to keep carry the fob with me.
We have a Tesla, so no keyring.
Just phone is key.
Thanks

You could use a switchbot to press the button if it is just 1 button and mount the fob in a cradle of some kind. Or the cheap option is clip the fob to your sun visor or velcro it in the door pocket.

I get the idea, but what about when I exit the car, and want to close the garage door?
Same again in the morning if the garage door fob is in the car.

I would suggest searching for a way of converting/adapting your existing garage mechanism to bluetooth control. It maybe that there is a replacement module for the existing controller. It's more than just a switch, it would have to interact with the door limit sensors/limit switches.
