I've previously bought a couple of cheap wi-fi cameras to use inside the garage (detached from the house) and when I set them up, they seem to work fine and then just go to st shortly afterwards, presumably because they aren't close enough to the house?

My DAB radio has just gone to pot too, so I'm wondering if I can use an echo show for both roles? I don't need full time CCTV in there, just to be able to log in occasionally and check all is well, oh and play music! Usually Absolute 90's.

Any flaws in my cunning plan?

Installing the echo show wont solve your wifi range issues? Most of these consumer devices (echos, ring cameras, nest cams etc) have really poor wifi range and I cant imagine an echo show will be much better.

I'd spend the money getting a wifi extender in to the garage and then work out what tech you want to run.

I was hoping an echo might have a better range than a cheapo no-name camera from amazon.

If I do sort the wifi issue my question still stands though... can I 'see' the camera from another device?

If I "drop in" on an echo show i can see the camera on my call without it having to "answer" as such.

I use an Echo Show for similar purposes. Ask it “Show me…” then the name of the camera. I also have a routine which automatically shows the front door when someone activates the door camera. Sound quality surprisingly good for listening to the radio.

I added a tp-link powerline last week, for the sole purpose of getting a smart speaker in there to listen to absolute radio 90s!

It worked on a different circuit just fine and I think was about £40 for the sender/reciever pair.

Thank you. I wasn't sure if it would work as my garage is on a separate ring to the rest of the house.

I use home plugs to transfer internet from the house to the garage, separate rings for both, and the plugs work fine ,can connect to my cameras easily.
