I have used evernote for years as a premium subscriber and have tolerated it's stness but i think I am properly done with it now as it seems to have started losing note updates entirely, which would seem like the only non-negotiable requirement for a fking note taking app...

so, looking for recommendations please... it's for use on macos and ios, and i am happy to pay, but it needs to have a bit more power than apple notes.

I really don't need it to be as full-featured as evernote as I don't use 95% of it. It would ne nice to hyperlink to different parts of the same note; something which evernote refused to implement. also i just want the synchronisation element to work seamlessly because on evernote that is crap too.

cheers

What are you looking for that Apple Notes can't do? I use notes across 4 iDevices and it works great. Never looked into the hyperlinking to different part of the same note so can't comment, but in terms of synchronisation, inserting freeform text, pictures, documents, URLs and even handwriting with the apple pen, never seen any shortcomings in Notes.

i might give it another look then. It just always felt a bit basic but if the sync works well and it doesn't lose data then that's most of the battle for me.

Onenote or Obsidian.

Notion also, not sure if it has a thick client or not.

And if Notes isn't powerful enough, have you tried the new FreeForm app - should have appeared free once you went to 16.2

I too would like to move away from Evernote, but its web clipper is so convenient.

Do any of the others have a decent web clipper?

Yes onenote web clipper is excellent. Article, region or just the text can be snipped.

I use Goodnotes on an iPad Pro. Works well with the Apple Pencil and there is an app for iPhone and Mac so your notes appear like magic on all devices.

have decided to give apple notes a go. Have moved over the most frequently changed notes and will see how it works. So far, i haven't spotted anything glaringly missing as I do have simple needs! The background sync hasn't given me any issues.... yet

This is basically the note taking meme that's making the rounds at the moment...just use apple notes smile

Personally i'm building my own "second brain" of sorts using Obsidian and possibly Tana. Assuming applenotes introduces some form of tagging or referenceability i'll probably drop them for it.

ha relatable. I don't need it to be cross-platform, and it doesn't need to be integrated, so maybe it was the obvious answer all along. Working well so far... famous last words

I really should Google this, but how easy is it to move notebooks from one app to another?

If you have a self-hosted webdav server you can sync onto that instead of a 3rd party.

at the moment I am creating new notes one by one and copying the content from the old to the new. So, not easy.
