Apple double click side button for wallet

My previous iPhone used to ask me for a 4-digit code to verify purchases using Apple Pay. Fair enough.

My new iPhone 13, however, wants me to double click the side button either before or after entering the code. Slightly less convenient.

Today I have put my David Lloyd card in my phone wallet. Now, I have to go through that palaver when exiting the car park where once I just had a membership card. Leaning out the window, in the rain, doing it all one handed is not altogether straightforward.

Looking through the settings, I see that there is an option to turn off the double click for wallet. However, all that appears to do is stop you opening wallet ahead of arriving at the payment terminal. When you present the card to the reader, you still have to double click and enter the code.

Is there a way of actually removing the requirement to double click the side button? Ideally, for the gym card, I would prefer not to have to click or enter a code.

Does anyone know whether any of this is possible please?

The double click is a short cut to the apple wallet and has always been there.

It use to be a double click of the home button until it was removed and changed to the side button.

The other way of accessing the wallet app(and your cards) is to actually open it directly in the wallet app, either in the App section or move it to your home screen.

You can set it up for face recognition if you want and that saves needing to enter the code.

Exactly what I do. Double click side button, look at phone, done. Very simple.

Check out the Express Travel Card setting in Settings->Wallet and Apple Pay. I think if you set your David Lloyd card as such you can just wave your phone at the reader as if the phone was your card.

Yes, even an old duffer like me uses this every time I have to pay for anything!

So convenient and I haven’t taken my wallet out with me for ages, everything I need is in my phone’s “wallet”.

I am in my wallet now and cannot see the DL Card. Though when I go into the DL app it gives me the opportunity to "view card in wallet" so I assume it is there.

When I go into Express Travel Card and "add card" it doesn't give me the DL card as an option.

What's the limit on them? I've only just started using it and wouldn't want to get caught out after filling with a tank of diesel with no means of paying for it!

There is no limit, due to the increased security of the access to payments on the phone.

Just be aware that most automated petrol stations don’t accept contactless payments.

I have the David Lloyd black card, with no limit. It's a bit like the Amex Centurion card, but for the gym.

But really what I want is to be able to get out of the car park.

Leave your card in the car? Wave it on the way out.

I would need one per car and they are trying to phase out physical cards, so I don't think they will want to issue me a handful more.

Aye, the double click works really well with face id. I only started using applepay like 3 years ago but I don't even carry a wallet anymore.

I’m really not sure what you are trying to achieve that it can’t do, or was different to your previous iPhone.

Nothing has really changed other than the removal of the home button. The features of Apple Wallet remain the same, and I’m sure with the info given here it would work as required.

My previous phone only required that I move it near the reader and then enter the 4-digit code. Now, if I move it near the reader I have to double click and enter the code. I can't see what double clicking achieves, security-wise.

With regard to the gym membership card, I would prefer not to double click or enter a code. I want to use it like a gym membership card.

Is the membership card used for the car park also the same Black payment card you mentioned earlier?

The 'double click + face recognition' thing to use cards/payments has been in place for years, and in my opinion, works really well. It is quicker than putting in a pin or unlock code of any kind.

Have you tried setting up face recognition? Then you would literally just have to double click the button and job done.

Unless I have misunderstood what you are trying to do, which is entirely possible.

You do not have to do that .The card should be in your wallet. open it then hover your phone over the reader to let you in. I do this everyday.

By reactivating double click I can now bring up the DL card. I don't seem to be able to make it an express travel card as mentioned above, so I can just present my phone at a security turnstile.
