We’ve just switched to Q and hate how the handset works. The Plus handset seemed to be more intuitive. Anybody got any similar experiences? Anything we can do?

Yeh, I had Sky Q for a year after having HD for years.
I switched to Virgin because I hated the interface and have never switched back.

Give it a few weeks and you'll have forgotten all about the old one. Personally I think the Sky remotes are pretty good and well thought out in comparison to most others.

Take our Samsung TV remote as an example. In the age of smart TV's, streaming, etc, why the juddering fk did they make the play-pause-fwd-rwd buttons so fking small? And who the fk uses the 0-9 buttons these days, certainly not enough to justify the amount of real estate allocated on the remote, surely?

Similar issue with our DVD/Blu-Ray player. wky little buttons which you're forever trying to find, then stabbing at to try and get a response. But again a whole load of space for 0-9 buttons which no-one fking needs. At least we don't use the DVD player much these days.

The Plus handset worked far, far better.

Have had the Q box since August and still can't get around the screens properly with it.
Even worse moving around Netflix and Amazon Prime, looking at film synopsis then going back to the main menu to then be kicked back to the Sky home screen.

Hate it and swear about it on a daily basis whilst using it.

The Sky Q remote is matched for crapness by the Sky Q interface.

We tend to record the F1 practice, qually and races (Don't ask smile but trying to find where they all are is a nightmare. They will be under the thumbnail of some random earlier recording, sometimes weeks ago, so you haved to trawl amongst the lot. It surely wouldn't be hard to have an option where the programmes are displayed in a text listing format rather than pretty pictures for the hard of reading?

Sky Q remote works well for me, however it took about a week before I found the search button after looking for it on the interface....

We just use the voice control all the time, so much easier.

You can say "Netflix", "Disney" or "Prime" and it'll launch the apps. You can also voice search any program you want it and it finds it.

Give it a go if you haven't already. There's not much you can't do with the voice control!

I also found that the menus looked much better after going into the accessibility settings and turning on high contrast mode, which gets rid of the horrible blue much better if using the menus in a dark room.

I’ve never tried this until just now, but you’re right, it’s much easier on the eye. I tend to watch in a relatively dark room, and I hadn’t noticed how bright the blue was until I just tried the black version.

I don't think we ever use the menu/buttons anymore!

You can also say the channel you want and it'll change it for you!

The function that annoys me is pressing the 'back-up' button and ending up way back at the home screen.

Will need to try that high contrast mode, very useful.

Handy feature that's useful with my 3 year old - if the remote is lost (hidden!) then go to the Sky Q box and press and hold the centre of the Q logo - the remote will start beeping until you find it!

There are multiple versions of the Sky Q remote.

The original Sky Q Silver (main box) remote has a touch pad which is very tricky plus it has the the voice button.
The original Sky Q Mini remote is all buttons and no voice button.
The "new" Sky Q remote is all buttons and it has the voice button.

The new Sky Q remote can be paired with any Sky Q box including the main silver box and mini.

The pairing uses Bluetooth which allows multiple Sky boxes to be used in the same room although the TV volume which uses infra red can be an issue.

Tip 1
The most useful Sky Q remote feature is to press voice and say "Skip 4" minutes to exactly miss the adverts. Note that the skip time is 4 minutes for mainstream channels and 5 minutes for satellite only channels.

Tip 2
The forward and rewind buttons be used to go up to X30 but another feature is to press up arrow and left or right which allows ultra fast skipping such as skipping over 2 hours in about 10 seconds.

Tip 3
While watching a channel press right arrow to go back to the previous channel and right again to go to the first channel.

Tip 4
While watching a channel press middle and the up and down or key in the channel number to see another channel shown picture in picture (only works on main box). Press middle to go to that channel.

The skip works for Sky recordings and not for streaming channels which generally do not allow downloading teh to the Sky box.

Compared to streaming channels a Sky program which has been recorded or downloaded to the hard drive is much easier to navigate and fast forward and rewind.

This with Christmas bells on… winds me up massively after moving house and couldn’t get Virgin Media!

That and the ‘I’ button that I was use to pressing one and then again to go away, and now it just jumps up screen levels.

That is brilliant. It was the only facility I thought was missing from my Humax box, so I'm now very happy.

Every day is a school day....

I've had Q for a year after 10 years of HD...it STILL drives me mad on a daily basis...what happened to Back Up to go back on level...why would I want to go back to the start every time! Useful tips above though!

Sky will send you an 'HD' remote that will work with Q, just tell them you can't see too well.

“Sorry, the Sky Q Accessibility remote doesn’t have voice control”

Odd decision as that would be super useful.
