Hi

I wonder if anyone has experience of either of these watches?

My wife has had an Apple watch 2 for a number of years and really likes it, particularly the fitness element and makes use of it every day. She has expressed an interest in upgrading as it’s become a bit laggy and temperamental, which is unsurprising given its age. She doesn’t like spending money on herself and is not really interested in tech in itself, so so thought I would buy her an SE 2 for Christmas. At £250 it seems to have all the features that my wife would need….

That was until my wife mentioned that the most annoying issue with her 2 is the raise to wake feature was unreliable, and to be fair my 4 suffers from a similar issue to a lesser extent. She doesn’t know I’ve bought her the SE, and now I’m wondering if I should just go ahead and spend the money on the 8 as this has the always on display and faster charging, which would be helpful for sleep tracking. At £419 it’s quite a big jump though, but again, she uses it every day and it will last quite a few years. The 7 would be an obvious choice given its similarities to the 8, but I’m struggling to find a new or Apple refurb at a price that makes it worthwhile.

I checked the existing Apple watch thread and there wasn’t much to answer this specific question, hence the new thread.

Thanks in advance.

AOD, faster charging and extra sensors are the only real difference between the two. For someone who has never had an Apple Watch before I’d say the SE2 is great. But if you know you’ll use it then I’d generally say go for the 8 - especially if you find raise to wake annoying as the AOD addresses this.

Got your receipt?

If she uses it every day then get the 8, she'll love it. I've got the 7 and use it for all sorts of things including the health and fitness apps.

Thanks for the replies; I’ve just picked up an 8 from Apple so she can make her mind up on the day. Both bought from Apple, who thankfully have a great return policy.

If it was me I would go for the 8 due to the raise to wake feature alone but she is a lot more cautious when it comes to spending money on Apple gear than me!
