I'm after recommendation's for a cheap unlimited Cloud Backup provider.

I used Carbonite for a couple of years then around 2012 moved to Livedrive which has been fine until recently but support is poor and I'm not sure I trust the platform anymore after recent problems.

I pay around 7 quid a month for unlimited pretty much realtime b/up for one machine with current usage around 6Tb. Live drive does offer a basic app to browse and download files on mobile and similar would be nice but its not a deal breaker.

I've read plenty of online reviews but would rather hear from personal experience.

Backblaze is $7/month for unlimited backup of one machine ($70 if you pay for a year)

I used it for a while but now I have everything on a NAS rather than the laptops and use their B2 Cloud Storage to back that up instead.

I’ll chip in with the usual ‘Anything but OneDrive’, even 3x £5 EBay usb drives is preferable to those thieving s at Microst.

OneDrive isn’t a backup product.

I used backblaze until I found out they start deleting your files if the drive it's linked to disappears. That's not a backup in my view.

I know use iDrive which works well and doesn't delete my data.

That’s interesting I had a look but couldn’t find many reports of such, do you have a link to your discovery?

At a guess it would be related to the software used to move data to the backblaze storage, it certainly used to be that backblaze did not supply this software & left you to use your application of choice, I believe that is still the case?

If so I could understand some data sync applications doing as suggested, it does seem that actual backup software would be best placed in this role.

Edit: it looks like backblaze have indeed started to offer a bundled service, believed we were talking about the more business focused B2 offering, unfortunately I still can’t find sources for unexpected deletion.

Sorry for the delay, PH keeps throwing a 403 forbidden on my replies.

It used to do it - do a google search for backblaze deletion policy.

I suspect its a side effect of deleting files if you discard a disc, but it has/had the effect of if a disc failed then it would delete - and if you hadnt had a chance to fix it in their nominal timeframes it just deletes.

It looks like they may now have an option to go back in time prior to the deletion to recover the files, but that wasnt an option in the past.

Another happy Backblaze Personal user here, it 'just works'. Make sure you select 'EU datacentre' when setting up the account as you'll want your data there rather than the US.

Apparently if you know someone who's a Backblaze customer they can give you a referral code for a free month.

Re. the deletion side of things; AIUI if an external drive isn't detected/connected for 30 days, the PC/Mac it's connected to will always be backed up.

Another option is to look at something like Arq Backup. That gives you a front end onto multiple providers like Google Drive, Google Cloud Storage, Amazon S3, Backblaze B2 along with local storage like a NAS or USB.

OP - what is your upload speed? Re-seeding 6TB might take a while...

Upload seems to max out around 70
