BT Mail account and THunderbird - intermittent
Discussion
I have a BT internet mail account and check mail on an i-pad, i-phone and desktop (Windows and Thunderbird).
All works well on the phone and the ipad, but the desktop frequently tells me the password is wrong and won't collect or send mails. I know the password is correct because every time Thunderbird starts it collects unread mail using the stored password, five minutes later it says the password is incorrect and asks me to input another! Sent some pictures from the desktop to my father this morning using BT's mail web-page - same password that Thunderbird sometimes thinks is wrong!
I have checked the thunderbird settings and they are set up as BT's help pages say they should be.
Any suggestions?

This sounds like a third party server auth issue. I don't use your set-up but I do use gmail IMAP through emClient program and it periodically fails to sync with the server to check mail, prompting me to re-enter my credentials, which are already as shown. Although it doesn't actually tell me, what it wants me to do is go to gmail website itself and log-in there. Once I do that, the email client syncs no problem and I don't have any issues again unless I log out of my gmail for some reason.
See if there's a setting in your BT account to allow access by third party apps, or maybe just by logging in via the BT page will fix it. Make sure you leave your browser cookies and password stuff set to store for websites. If you have them set to delete or you're manually logging out, that could be the reason why it seems to work ok sometimes but not others.

Must admit I haven’t seen it for a while but I regularly used to get connection errors for my BT account on opening Thunderbird and next day it’d work fine - however it’s an old BT account and I use Gmail now.
Late FIL had same issue and would try and reset the password and get in a right mess as the new one didn’t ’stick’ and the old password would often still work.

I have had issues with changing passwords in the past where one device won't work despite having the new password, real pain in the neck but switching everything to Gmail would be a real pain.
Why doesn't it just work?
It DOES know the password!
Which version of windows? There is a an issue with windows 7 and getting email connectivity. Why doesn't it just work?
It DOES know the password!
