Windows 7pro antivirus? Upgrade to 10?

Going to want to start using an old laptop on holiday. It still got windows 7 pro on it.
Any recommendations for antivirus, most seem to want windows 8 or above?
Or should I upgrade it to windows10? Can that still be done for free?

It can probably be upgraded - this link lets you create Win 10 installation media (it's Microsoft, so not dodgy)
