Morning all,

First let me get this out the way - I AM NO ELON MUSK AND HAVE VERY LITTLE IDEA ABOUT COMPUTERS, CODING etc.

I can find my way around the Philips Hue app and have some basic automation in the house in the form of lights etc.

However I now have a RING camera on the front of the house coupled with the obligatory RING doorbell which everyone has lol! What I would like to do is find a way that if motion is picked up on either camera it turns a selection of my lights (internal/external) on - which are Philips Hue controlled.

My basic understanding is this can’t be done as Philips works on Zigbee and RING on wifi, but then I stumbled upon IFTTT and in researching that also read about Stringify.

I wonder if those far more experienced and knowledgable than me can tell which, if either, will allow my RING to talk to my Hue lights and if it’s really as simple as it is in my head…….

Appreciate any advice.

Cheers

Si

Stringify shut down a few years ago IIRC. IFTTT allows products to link to each other via the IFTTT servers to allow incompatible systems to work with each other.

There is already an automation here that does what you want to do although it is a couple of quid a month to use if you want faster applets and more of them than the free plan would provide. It is pretty easy to set up and create applets and as the name of the site suggests you create a trigger (If this) and assign an action (Then that) by linking your accounts together. You should be able to create what you want from scratch with a couple of mouse clicks.

That’s really helpful thank you, so I will forget Stringify and concentrate on the IFTTT platform.

As I thought it wasn’t an overly complicated process I wanted to create and if it costs a couple of quid a month then so be it.

Thanks for your advice bud.

No probs. There is also a Hue motion sensor available for outdoor use for about £39.

There's a thread on here about Home Assistant, it's dead simple to setup on a Raspberry Pi or whatever and have it do all this stuff locally.

I don't know about the ring doorbell, but don't rule Alexa out for things like this.

I've got a few Hue motion sensors which turn hue lights on in some rooms.

With Alexa I can pick up that motion sense, and also automate turning on other lights, plugs etc.
