Leaving BT in Feb next year but where to
Discussion
We end our two year contract with BT in Feb next year so I have started looking on comparison sites . We have a phone line too but we won't need this going forward so it Broadband only we want . The line is slow here only about 20 Mbps down , but that works for us fine streaming TV and computer etc. BT has been very reliable but so costly it's just not sustainable. Seems we can easily half the cost if not better on any search.
My actual question is we live in a long bungalow and the BT package gave us three discs that we use . It gives good coverage everywhere. With no discs we would be compromised. Do other provides give the same set up , a main router and a few discs or similar?
I will try the I am going to cancell what's the new deal with BT in the new year but judging by the offers to renew they are sending me it won't happen and I will be off

I switched from Virgin to Vodafone a couple of years ago, I was fed up of Virgins frequent price increases. Even though a slower speed, I’ve never had an issue with Vodafone and we have plenty of tech connected to the Wi-Fi.
Went the other way here as Openreach service is hopelessVirgin 250mbps, £24.25 a month
No problems at all
I switched from BT earlier this year as their 24mth "upgrade" was nothing more than a price increase and no new router etc.
IIRC they wanted about £65 for their 500mb service (FTTP)
I switched to TalkTalk on their matched FTTP service for £28/mth on an 18mth contract. They gave me a free Eero 6 Pro router (but they actually sent 2 - I dont know if this was right or not) and ive since bought another to ensure no dead spots anywhere in the house, garage, gardens, etc.
Its been flawless frankly, zero outages and the Eero app management system is excellent and very intuitive.

I've think I read something about TalkTalk 'owning' the Eero units they supply, and they have to be returned when cancelled. Can anyone confirm if this is true?
I think they mostly all want their routers back when the contract ends - BT certainly do and charge if you dont return it.I'm leaving BT as well. My fixed term ends 31/1/23 and their T&C's state 30 days notice must be given.
I phoned them up to notify cancellation at the end of my fixed term a couple of days ago and was told that I was telling them too early and would be charged if I persisted. I asked the Call Handler when cancellation would be accepted without penalty and was told exactly 30 days before 31/1/23. So giving them more than 30 days notice is apparently unacceptable.
Has anyone else cancelled with BT and if so at what stage did you tell them?

You don't have to tell them anything! You can just let your contract expire at which point you're on a monthly rolling contract (if that's the right term) that you can get out of when it suits you. I went out of contraact for nearly two years and paid the same monthly charges then bought a new TV and sound system and wanted their Halo3+ router and BT TV Box Pro for its Atmos and 4K HDR (excellent kit) so rang them up out of the blue and had a nice chat with them and got the kit I wanted (they waived the setup charge) and saved £20/month with the same/equivalent package as before.
What I'm saying is no need to rush

I'm off to a local provider called Jurassic Fibre.Did they try and keep you , with any type of offer . Who are you going to.
Both of my neighbours have signed up with them and are very happy.
They install a new line from the pole to the house. This looks a lot thicker than what is currently there.
£30/month all in including 300 minute call plan. Rolling contract with no price increases.
I am retaining my landline and they port that over next month.
They check all rooms in the house to ensure complete coverage and install any necessary hardware if coverage is not complete.
When I spoke to BT no attempt was made to persuade me to stay. Perhaps they will try when I phone again.
I'm with Plusnet. They started providing "Full Fibre" FTTP earlier this year, initially for existing customers and then new customers. The router they supply is a rebadged and tweaked BT router. It is possible to move from Plusnet to BT before the end of contract so it may be possible to move from BT to Plusnet with no early termination charge.
Although they offer more FTTP options for existing customers, the website only has 3 for new customers.
Be warned that not all the sales people know the full details of moving from BT to Plusnet.

If your existing BT WIFI system works then you probably don't need to change it at all, just plug it into the ethernet port of your 'new' broadband router in place of the original BT router.
AFAIK BT sell their 'whole home WiFi' system as a universal mesh system the same as Google and others. All these devices do is provide a wifi connection to the ethernet of the system router, they don't actually interact with the router's wifi, so all being well you won't even need to change the wifi name or update the wifi settings of any of your devices connected to it.

May I suggest Plusnet. . I live in an old house( possibly 1930s or older) and walls are problems to WIFI/RF ( only Vodafone works inside the walls), but I've found that by using a WIFI sniffer, I can a decent signal throughout the house. Also, it might be possible to play with incoming line to site router in the middle. ( or get installer to run external cable mid way). The only problem with PN is that at end of contract, you do not get any special deals.
As for discs- if you stay as is, why not look at wifi extenders.
