Hi all,
My tablet is getting a bit creaky these days, sometimes 5-6 seconds to react to button presses. I mainly use it for watching Youtube, various streaming services and as a Kindle.
It occurred to me when using a friend's Chromebook that this could be quite useful for the same use, with the advantage of a slightly bigger screen (12 or 13"?) and the tent mode would be easier to prop up in bed rather than the flimsy case I have on the tablet.

Would this be a good use of a Chromebook or a bit of a waste? I still have a full Windows laptop which I use for other things so it won't be used for anything heavy (which is also due an upgrade!).

TIA

Chromebooks are great for that and basically just an Android tablet with a keyboard already attached.

For the lightweight/casual uses you've listed then yeah it'd be fine.

But if you expect a tablet like experience and to use lots of android apps then a good android tablet is still the way to go.

Chrome OS is still a very different user experience in tablet mode than desktop mode, even if superficially it appears very similar to android on first acquaintance.

I've also a Tab A by the way. Picked it up 2-3 years ago new-in-box for 150eur. It does seem to have slowed quite a bit in recent months. Which I'm tempted to try and address with a factory reset - purely out of curiosity to see just how much jank still builds up over time in Samsung's version of the OS. Or not, if that did prove to be the case.
