I put the bins out last night and noticed so many planets up there, along with a moon that was unreal.

I got the binoculars out and thought about whether I should invest in a telescope.

Budget wise, I'd say 250 is the max.

Any recommendations ?

Have a read of this about what you might expect to see:

That is a really good link.

Several decades ago - I bought a telescope ( living in the middle of nowhere with no light pollution ) - and the stars were amazing. Bought a telescope with a small expectation that I could see wonders.

It was exactly like that post describes.

TBH with a Celestron 130 I'd expect that.

It's tbh a better option than binoculars that shake a lot.

Missed one on gumtree yesterday that was 90 quid and barely used so I think I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Celestron 114 found and picking up tomorrow for 80 quid.

Are these sorts of telescope fine to leave in a garage (with a dust sheet?) Its a carpeted garage.

I was more worried about moisture tbh.

Yup it should be fine as long as the lens is covered properly

Just had a little go at the moon when some cloud cover had gone.

It was a bit tougher than I thought but nice so far.

Reading about collimate and wondering if this thing needs it.

Cheap enough to check out but unless it's really out I wouldn't worry too much...can be more hassle than it's worth at times

This thread reminds me that I should really get around to selling my telescope. Got it a couple of years ago and I've only used it a couple of times.

I have a 130 and it’s faffy. I’d go dobsonian to start with, especially if you want to get kids into it. Easier viewing, no set up and put away time smile

Went out last night with it, I concur...it's a faff if you don't know how to get the mount working.

The moon was found first night by moving it about but last night absolutely chaff all I've just been moving it about too much when searching I think and it's become unaligned.

Do you stand up with a Celestron or sit down? Im finding the process of looking in comfortably most bloody annoying tbh.

Learning quite a bit so far.

The kit admittedly was probably setup good to go but I've in my typical male approach moved/turned stuff to find out how it works and needed to understand how to setup from scratch in the manuals.
