Been out and bought a new computer. My existing computer has Outlook as an application which I open up and I can see all my different email accounts in a list down the side. I have windows 8 on my old PC and thought it was time to get a new one rather than update the OS to Windows 10

My new computer has windows 10. I have downloaded Outlook and when I try to open it I get the following message:-

"Outlook cannot log in. Verify you are connected to the network and are using the proper server and mailbox name. The Microsoft Exchange Information service in your profile is missing required information. Modify your profile to ensure that you are using the correct Microsoft exchange information service"

Did an online chat with someone at Microsoft and they got me to create a new profile. Outlook them opened but nothing would sync and the email address came up as ourlook_EEE djhdjsdajksjkda (for example). I spent 2.5hrs on the chat with Microsoft and gave up!

The other option is I continue to use my old computer and just update it to Windows 10 or 11.

Any ideas?

When you say Outlook do you mean the full Ofice/MS365 programme/app or the web client? Do you have an MS365 account or do you use Hotmail etc?

Outlook tries to be really "helpful" when it installs. It doesn't always work. (I'm Assuming you are using the Outlook 365 client application).

If entering your email address and using the settings that Outlook has assumed are right for you doesn't work, then you will need to do a manual setup using the server details your ISP/Mail provider have provided.

It's a desktop application. I pay an annual fee for Office 365 and can then download Excel/Word/outlook etc so that I dont have to be on the internet to use the applications. I'm not very techy so bear with me.

The only issue is, I dont get as far as even opening up the appliation to do a manual set up

I would delete the profile(s) and start again. Go to Control Panel > Mail > Profiles > Delete profile.

Run it again after that and see how you get on.

This, ad you will need all of the information from your existing computer, i.e. your O365 credentials.

Deleted my profile. Set up a new one. Emails synced. Closed the application, went back in and got exactly the same error message I started with. Would not even open Outlook again. It's most frustrating. I've even tried removing Outlook and putting it back on again. Done that 3 times.

My next step would be to uninstall and reinstall the Office suite.

Did Office come preinstalled?

If you have a 365 subscription it might be best to uninstall and re-install your office products direct from MS.

Did you copy across your
\Users\{account}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\
folder from your old to your new machine ?
Additionally on your old set up you want to look at your profile and check what outlook files are being used, then copy these to the new machine and with the above folder in place, go in to the profile settings and re-point each mailbox to the original files.

Uninstall Office from control panel (All version if multiple languages) go to office.com and login with your MS365 subscription details. Download and install fresh copy.

Delete the profile again as per above ^
Start again, any check that it works. If it does, then don't close, since it will be sync'ing your mail... This can take many hours.

Watch the status bar in Outlook (bottom right)...

In the interesting comments part of the thread, " I haven't."

Try not to fall off your chairs with this slightly underwhelming news.
