Echo Dot Household question

I hope I can explain this right, here goes:

Both my kids have an echo dot in their rooms and we have one in the lounge. I bought it so I could communicate with them, however because we have a spotify family account they have their own Alexa accounts so as not to interfere with eachothers music.

However, after hours of faffery I cannot find a way to communicate with them, I'm assuming this is because they are on separate accounts (albeit on the same wi-fi). Is there anyone that can point me in the right direction of how to make this work (if it is possible of course).

Link the Alexa accounts in to a household account.

My wife and I both our own Spotify accounts on our Alexa accounts, and you switch account by saying "Alexa, Switch account", but stuff like routines and dropping in on other devices works regardless of who's account each device is on
