trying to export a presentation as a video
easy you would think,
bit of background music inserted then into record each slide recorded individually timings look good so far so good.
until i export it................. my 2 1/2 minute video is now 6 minutes long and my timings are shot to pieces. what am i missing here?

Have you tried the"Rehearsal" setting.
Then it should remember how long it took you on each slide - with the music for each slide ( each slide is different - remember that ). or - if you want one piece of music - I would do the music after. ( in a video editing app )
Then export as a video format.
Or just powerpoint -"Rehearse" the times you need.
Export to video.
Run in a video app....
Add music
And Robert is your mother's brother.
If you need it done for you - I'll do it. I need to get into Santa's good books.
But I need each slide - the time you need on each slide - And of course the music. And when in the presentation the next slide ties in with the music.
Season of goodwill and all that.
Edit: I'll even email you step by step how I did it - so next time - you can.
