We already have a Ring doorbell and I just bought two Stick Up cams in the sale. I originally ordered the battery version but it appears they've sent me the wired version which wouldn't be an issue except for the jack on the end of the plug.

Which 'design genius' decided to fit a huge right angled jack on the end of the cable? Do Amazon seriously expect me to drill an inch wide hole through the side of my house to install these?

How do products like this reach the production stage with no one saying "hang on a minute..."?

Any kind of wrap around bung on the market to fill the large gash?

It's actually worse than I first thought, if the utterly useless instructions are correct then that huge white box in the middle is supposed to go on the outside of the house. I'd love to know how.

I think that's the likely outcome. The Stick Up Cam Elite simply has a USB-C for power or a PoE RJ45 but they want an extra £100 for that and it's not a cost that can be justified to me.

This was the reason I returned the Ring Cameras I bought ages ago - the cabling just doesn't make any sense at all. I thought you'd be able to unplug the big bits, feed the small cable through the wall and reconnect and genuinely though I was missing something!

There's a lot to be said for Power over Ethernet, CAT5e and an RJ45 crimping tool...

Yes, but they want you to pay an extra £125 for them sticking a NIC into the device and removing WiFi. Given that NIC's are about thruppence, it doesn't make any financial sense.

I opted for Netatmo Presence camera units around my home(s)

Run off a regular twin and earth. Wifi connectivity with HomeKit and googlehome plus no subscription, win win (IMHO)

I'd return them. The battery powered stick up cam we have lasts for a couple of months between charges.

These actually accept a battery as well, apparently that's a new feature of this gen's cams. What I can't get my head around is the thought process in designing the cabling, someone actually got paid for that and at no stage did anyone stop and say "how are people supposed to feed this through a wall, how big a hole are we expecting Joe Public to drill?"

Did they have the guys from the Hatton Garden job give them a hand or what?

Could just buy a right angled extension cable and feed that through the wall
