Odd happenings with YouTube?

I’ve got a YouTube channel. It’s ticked over for the last 8 years or so. One video has a lot of hits that come in at around 7,500 a year. Nothing else came close.

I posted a video on, of all thing, a miniature steam engine show at Amberley. In a bit over three weeks, its views have hit over 8,000. Good as my video is, it is odd. Part II of the show has struggled to 450, about normal. Last Thursday, the total views of the site hit 126,870. Today, Tuesday, it stands at 126,870, despite the nigh on 2,000 extra hits on the big hitting video.

Any idea why? Has something happened to my videos? Has a YT algorithm been upset? Is my channel at risk?

Doubt the channel is at risk, more likely the vid has been posted on another social media site and is doing the rounds.

Link the video here and let the hive mind try and find where it has been posted.

It's continuing. This morning the totals were 15,162 for the individual video, and 136,442 for the channel total.

We're not allowed to post a hotlink to a video created by the post starter, but if you search for Writewheel UK on YouTube the video in question is shown at the top. (Hope that's alright, moderators. It doesn't break the literal rules, although I accept it is borderline. In all honesty, with 15K views, I'm not that bothered about a few more from PH.)

Oddly, I received over 400 views overnight, from 10pm to 8am, on that video. I can understand why Psy went viral (4.6 billion views), but miniature steam shows?

Had a simular thing had a really poor video that was old on youtube, only uploaded it to send the video to someone before whatsapp days.

Then out of the blue several years later started getting notifications, and ove r amillion views in the end.

Had no idea what was going on, found out for somereason youtube dug it up and posted it on a dialy shorts thing in America....


Edit just checked 12 million views now and i went from about 4 subscribers to 13000!

Guess i could do something with the account, but no idea what really, haven't got anything remotely interesting to add / upload

I've found it's the most unexpected videos that get a surprising amount of views, all it needs is for it to get posted in the right place and it goes viral, then the YouTube algorithm will pick it up as trending and then start recommending it to a wider audience and the numbers go up even more.
If there's a lot of likes and comments that can get it more promotion in the recommendations too.
