Bit annoyed, second one to die in a year. Sandisk 256Gb, not expensive but not a fiver a time either.

Nothing on this one of value, just used as a source for movies on the TV.

Can it be revived? Two laptops just time out trying to read it and TV doesnt even recognise it any more.

Worked perfectly for 6 months.

Is leaving it plugged into a TV on standby potentially the issue or just a dodgy one... I have another which has valuable stuff on it being backup up as I type!

I wiggled mine about and kept plugging and unplugging and it eventually gave up its contents but once I shifted the stuff off, it just died so I broke it and chucked it.

My new issue is a Kingston memory card that the camera will recognise after a few error messages but my two SD card readers won't register it at all. Only 44 holiday photos but still...

Is the TV continually writing to the drive ?

They generally fail as suggested when being constantly written to or read from. Obviously you could also have a mechanical issue usb connector coming away from the board. Your not going to revive one that has had enough write cycles to die.

M2 SSD drives are dirt cheap and with a usb enclosure will do the job far better for far longer. Only downsides is the space they take up and will cost 4 times as much though, but will probably last 10 times as long

ok, thanks guys.

I think the fact its plugged in all the time may be part of the problem. I've got sticks many years old that are fine but I noticed this one was very hot last time I took it out of the the TV (even though that was on standby). As is an identical one I use on a laptop as a backup.
