Apologies if there's already a thread, but the mobile version of PH isn't showing a search option.

Anyway,

Thinking of buying a drone for absolutely no reason other than I want one, and had pretty much decided on the dji mini 3 Pro, and then as I'd almost pressed the buy button, dji released the mavic 3 classic for not significantly more.

Other than the additional side sensors and (I think) bigger sensor, does anyone who has any experience think it's worth the uplift in cost?

I have no experience in drones and its only for a hobby, but I've got my flyer and operator tickets, so not limited in that sense.

Thx

The DJI Mini has less restrictions due to the low weight (under 250g).

It is a good starter drone. You can always upgrade later on.

I have a mini 3 pro, for less flight restrictions and recommend it. You ned to familiarise your self with Drone Laws.

You might be better posting this on the Photography forum, lots of Drone talk and pics there...

Thanks, I knew I'd pick the wrong part of the forum!

I'm aware of the laws, that's how I've got my operator and flyer licences

For your first proper drone I’d go mini 2 unless you know you really need the pro. There is a huge price difference (up front and to repair if you crash it) and the Mini 2 is still a very capable unit.

The 2 doesn't have the collision avoidance the 3 Pro has, which in my mind means I'm more likely to crash it.

I'm also aware that I'm likely to regret not buying the latest version, even if I don't need it. That's how I've ended up with all my other gadgets.

It will be a toy, I know I don't need one, I know it's an expensive toy, but like the insta360 x3, I want one,
And its cheaper than a new car

Don't forget the CAA recently updated it's rules so even with the new rating on the Mavic, it is really restrictive on where you can fly. This is a really good video on the new regs.

I recently upgraded to a MP3, it's night and day over my last drone. I know the sensor is better on the bigger Mavic series but for 99% of what you'll probably use your drone for you'd probably not need/wish you had it if that makes sense.

The whole point of the upgrade was for an upcoming holiday to the US, so the 250g limit helps with licenses/permits, likewise where you can fly in the UK also.

I'd recommend getting the RC bundle and also the fly more kit, depending your intentions probably some filters - ND/polarizing etc also.

Yeah, it's a joke. Something like 80% of people who responded to the consultation said to postpone the changes but they just did what they wanted anyway.

For £20 you might also consider £5m public liability.

There is also a Mini3p FB group with some amazing work.

Another aspect to consider is the app. I use Litchi with my mini2 and it provides some decent tracking/following and VR features that are missing from the standard dji fly go app. Cost £20 but worth it just for the track feature...

I use Litchi and it is great although another alternative is Maven which I've used as well and it's very similar.

I have a magic mini

It’s pretty good, it lives in Chinese takeaway tub in my car and the controller in another tub, all charges by usb so very handy

It’s under 250g so not much needed to fly other than the online test thing

Having a smaller model really helps as you can take it everywhere.
